Any hosp/clinic positions for summer time only?

I do not know what area you live in, or how far you are in your program, but a lot of the hospitals in my area offer Summer Nurse Internships. Here you have to be through two semesters of clinicals, but you can work for 6 weeks 24-36 hrs a week under one RN on the floor. I am looking into working on am OB floor because clinicals next fall will be in OB, and the experience will help me along. If not I will do Med/Surg. The pay is not bad either. Contact HR, or nurse education at hospitals in your area.

Here they call them "Externships" and you have to be second level (normally finished yr 1).

I did one over the summer and it was great. You get a real taste of what it's like to work your shifts, doing inservice trainings, documentation, passing meds, assessments, interventions, calling the Dr at 2am, etc. And with some luck it may lead to a job after school.

The program I did (in VA) gives you a 50 cent hourly increase over other new grad hires, plus you get credit for the 3 months toward your benefits kicking in.

Thanks everyone! This is exactly what I was hoping to hear! If I get accepted this Fall, that should put me right in place to begin working the following summer. I'll definately have to give the local hosp a call and see what I can find out for my area

Internships/Externships. Do them. They're great opportunities, at least from what I've heard. You get paid to learn and have a foot in the door at that hospital.

Also, there may be some hospitals willing to let you shadow their nurses. You'll have to ask around, but whatever experience you can get will be very helpful.
