Any honest reviews of South University FNP/ post MSN certificate

Nursing Students NP Students

Updated:   Published

I would like to see some honest, current (2016), student reviews of the SU online FNP program, and specifically anybody who is attending the POST MSN certificate version of the FNP program. I am really interested in attending a PMHNP program but I want a back up plan and need to plan ahead!

I have read some great, some poor reviews. I have read about people who had to repeat multiple classes that had already been done at previous schools. I have read about all sorts of good and bad. I'm not really sure what to think.

I will be a post graduate seeking NP student, and my big concern is that I don't want to find out I have to repeat multiple courses, even if they are only 5 weeks. I just want to get my NP.

Any current reviews, especially from anybody IN the online program, or IN the post graduate online NP Program would be much appreciated!!

I'm currently in it now. You should read the last couple of threads to get a good idea of what you would potentially getting yourself into. From the scope of things thus far (4 months in), it's not a bad school if you can manage time and locating clinical sites yourself. Do not expect a lot of help from the school. I have found my clinical sites but it took many many phone calls everywhere within a 1 hour radius of my place. Also, there frequent rule changes when it comes to things like clinical requirements so you have to really keep in touch with your clinical coordinator to stay up to date one everything. Overall, I'm happy I applied to this program. I went to a "amazing", tough to get into BSN program and I thought mostly everything I learned hardly came from the school and mostly came from clinical or precepting experience.

Specializes in GENERAL.

This is a good but partial assessment of the non-quality results of their online program let alone the entire Education Management Corporation owner of the South University ongoing financial meltdown mess.

If you go to (collegescorecard.ed.gov) you will see that the online program has a graduation rate, last time I looked, of 2%.

Do a web search of EDMC and you will uncover its slow motion run towards being the next ITT tech.

Besides being financially questionable they have a checked history of not doing right by students.

In 2015 they paid a 95 million dollar fine to the dept of justice and were forced to forgive 102 million dollars in loans to students after pleading no contest to the illegal recruitment of students under the false claims act.

They are presently owned by the Wall Street private equity firm of KKR, not known for their love of nursing, only profits.

In 2014 they delisted from the Nasdaq. Today the stock is worthless trading for 1cent a share.

There is so much more but my point is you are playing Russian roulette with your time and money by getting involved with this organization.

Sure the so called academic advisors are agreeable and helpful but know they are really trained salespeople.

South University is more about generating student loans than graduating and retaining students.

It's just unfortunate that schools that may have had so much potential to do good succumbed to greed and mediocrity charging high tuition for sub-par results.

This debaucle has adversely affected investors and students alike begging the question what their true purpose in post secondary education is and how most for-profits can legitimately refer to themselves as schools.

It's sad that most for-profits retain the losing business model of ITT and Corinthian which has proven to not live up to by any stretch of the imagination their former reasons to be in business in the first place.

So know South is no bargain by any measurement of quality. Don't tempt fate and risk going down with this sinking ship when there are so many much better options.

Also know by the former poster's guarded estimation of this program that he is going to tell you things that might paint a more sanguin picture than is justified for his own not totally informed decision to attend this school.
