Does anyone know an APN with two specialty training (NP/CNS; NP/CRNA; NP/Nurse Midwife etc) who is currently working, utilizing both dual roles in perhaps the SAME area of practice?
I am an FNP (with NP experience in the ED) who will be finishing my nurse anesthesia training this August and I will be working as a nurse anesthetist (once I pass boards) AND as an NP under the same anesthesia medical group (as an NP in the pain management department). Although I haven't started working as an NP yet (awaiting credentialing paperwork), I am very excited in developing this "dual" APN role.
I would like to be able to correspond with someone who has done this, in hopes to be able to get some feedback, suggestions, etc.
Thanks.
Vince.

Vince, I'm sure there are others out there who don't come to these boards who could discuss your positions. However, I'm working on my FNP degree and would like to go back and earn my CRNA certification afterwards. It's good to see that there are employment opportunities that incorporate both areas of specialty that you possess. I'll have to keep all that in mind once my coursework is over.
Thanks for the response guys. I will keep you all posted on how this dual role position works out for me and for the anesthesia group that I will be working for.
Well, here's an update guys...
I was busy these past few weeks working on getting my NP license from California transferred over here to Ohio. Boy, it wasn't THAT easy as I thought it would be...
I had to retake an advance pharmacology for APN course (Ohio rules) which cost me about 600 bucks! I took the 45-hour course online as recommended by the Board of Nursing here. It took me a whole weekend to finish and I took the 200 item exam and PASSED! Thank goodness! I was already busy studying for my CRNA boards and I really didn't need another stressor on top of what I already had.
THEN, I had to send several forms back to California (to my school where I got my NP) and to the docs whom I worked with to verify my employment and prescriptive priviledges with, AND to the ANCC to verify that I was indeed board certified.
After all that, it was just a matter of waiting...to my surprise, 2 weeks after I filed all requirements, I checked my Ohio credentials online this week and my NP and prescriptive authorities were ACTIVE!
I am just awaiting my credentials to be approved by the hospital (hopefully I'll be approved this week), then I'll be starting my NP role at the Pain Management Clinic.
I won't be working full-time yet, since I am still finishing up my Nurse Anesthesia residency (I'm GRADUATING SEPTEMBER 1st!). I'll be seeing patients for a few hours after my anesthesia clinicals and on days that I am off during the week and possibly on weekends.
As far as studying for my upcoming CRNA boards, I've been studying since March. I'm pretty confident that I'll be ready by the time my test date comes around (possibly late September to early October). THEN, the fun really begins when I start performing my DUAL APN role as an NP and soon-to-be CRNA in the Anesthesia department.
More updates to come...

Vince,
Wow! You really have so much drive doing both the CRNA and you're already an NP on top of that. You're amazing. I feel like I have my hands full with just NP school.

Hi Vince, I don't even know if you reply to this board or not anymore? It has been 3 years since this post I just read! I have an interview at St. Elizabeth's Monday morning (3/16/09). I was wondering if you had any advice? if you have any pearls of wisdom. I am very nervous!
