Any CSUB Fall 2012 Hopefuls?
You got one here!
Well, I have all the points for the gpa so I hope that will compensate for my low score on the test. By low I mean it's low in comparison to all the out of towners that apply to the program. Nursing is so competitive that people from north cali are coming down south just for the BSN program. So although our score is pretty good in comparison to Kern valley folks that applied I am not too sure out competitive we are against out of towners.
We need an 70 to be even considered. It does help a lot to have all the gpa points. I can't say how much though. I've talked to a few people that applied and I know several that haven't passed or scored low 70s. A few that scored mid 70s and a few that even got 85s. I don't know how they managed to score that high. But for the people that score 90s and above they are most likely not going to csub. For most of them CSUB is probably a back up school for them. from last year I think only 7 people had scores of 90 range. and 80-89 range were like 40 people or so. But keep in mind a lot more people applied this year. So i don't know how much change will occur in the teas scores. The nursing department told me that someone got an 95 on the test. She also told me that a lot of people scored really well on the teas exam. I don't know what to make out of this. I guess we will just have to wait.
Also, from the tentative rankings all i know is where ever you rank you can expect someone below you to improve by about 10 points max.
because I just took phil and stats. I think i got an A for phil and if I get an A for stats my points schould improve my 10 points.
April, I know almost all the people that were picked for last years nursing program. there weren't that many. Also to reduce your worries a lot of csub students that apply won't pass the teas or pass with a very low score. this is because most csub students are still taking physiology.
staceym is that your real name?
Wow! I'm shocked! You seem to know so much about the program! Do you work closely with the advisor? Also, a lot of what you are saying is helping me feel better. I don't live in the Bakersfield area so I don't have the 5 points, and I also don't have the maximum GPA points. My teas score is only average in my opinion compared to others I've spoken to.. So you can see why I am nervous and the position I'm in. I couldn't apply to community colleges due to classes in progress and CSUB is the only school besides CSULA that wil accept my Chemistry. I was instantly denied from CSULA because one of my pending classes had to be completed by Fall 2011. This is the only Bachelors program I applied for and will try for CCs in the fall. Due to budget cuts and Cal states being locked for Spring 2013 and on.. This is really my only hope to getting in a BSN program unless I choose to apply to private colleges. (which I cannot afford :/) I'm hoping and praying even though there are more applicants.. That my points will even be the bare minimum
Like I said I go to csub so I kind of know what the application process is like. Besides going there I have friends already in the program. I wouldn't worry you seem like you'll get in.
Don't worry. Don't give up. if you don't get in for some odd reason don't lose hope. I wouldn't advise you to do it privately, but if you have to go for it. Cuz i spent a whole year waiting for someone to accept me. Now i have two community colleges waiting for me if for some reason I don't get picked at csub.
No I mean I am that confident that I'll receive A's in both of those classes so I'll have the full points. Like I said I just completed PHil and I am almost done with stats. THose points won't be added in the tentative rankings because I won't get the final grades until june??? not sure when exactly... but whenever the final grades are due that's when I'll get them.
That's exactly what I had planned so I didn't worry too much about taking the teas. But when I heard it got cancelled I was really sad. So I decided to retake a few classes. I actually passed stats already with an B but I am taking it for an A. I took stats for six weeks at a community college that doesn't go by the + and minus system. So my 89 percent in stats is no different than 80 at csub. I was super angry that my stats professor didn't just give me the A. THat's why I am confident this time I'll get the A that I deserve.
Gurjit, I'm going to back track for a moment. In a post earlier, you said out of the 220 that applied last year.. only 80 were eligible? I went to the info session so I know 57 were accepted to the Fall 2011 cohort. Does that mean only about 23 were really denied that were eligible?
Btw, thank you so much for all of this info! you've been extremely helpful!

Gurjit, do you know what the passing score is? And if I'm understanding correctly, our 80.7 scores are pretty good bc most scored lower than that? If so, that's somewhat comforting. I have a very good GPA (bc I busted my a$$) do its nice to know that it may help pay off.
