Any College of DuPage students out there?

Published

Hello~

I originally applied in 2004 and was one of over 1000 applicants! I got real close on the waiting list but, it never panned out. I took some time off, had another baby and am now ready to go!

Just curious if there are still that insane amount of applicants at COD? Any advice? I have my BA and only have 3 more pre-reqs to take; Psych 237 Life Span, Nutrition and Micro. I've taken my CNA and was able to get a permit and take Nursing 100 in the summer of 04.

Any advice, insight or thoughts would be welcome! How hard is the HESI exam? Any prep that I can start doing now for Fall 08? Also, have they done any more pilot programs? I heard that they were starting some students in January?

Thanks!

Hi! I am a 1st year student at COD! There weren't as many applicants when I applied... I'm not sure the exact amount but I know it wasn't 1000! I'm not sure how they used to do things before, but now when you apply you have to have a lot done! You have to take the HESI test, there's a fee (maybe $100?), you have to have your physical and titers drawn, etc. My advice is to take Micro, Psych, and Nutrition ASAP! There are some students that still have to take some of them, and it's just a lot to handle all at once! So, if you can, I would take those before you start. I personally don't think the HESI was that bad, but I studied (some people didn't!). They took out the biology and chemistry sections (and A&P?). So it was only Math, reading comprehension, vocab, and grammar. I would absolutely get the HESI Admission Assessment Study Guide (not the NCLEX book). I hope this link works... Under Construction

You're right, they are starting some students in January. I'm not sure if it is a night/weekend program or what. I'm not sure I would want to be part of it... it seems like they don't know exactly how its going to go. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help! Good luck!

Hi,

I go to COD but I am only doing my General edu there. I am tying to get into a direct entry private school in WI. It is much cheaper to live in WI (because my husband will be the only income when I start nursing school). Lots of choice much easier to get into the nursing programs in private schools. Last time I look into COD program there was about 300 to 400 applicates I think that was last year maybe that has change you should contact the nursing dep but I say also look into other school just in case cod does not work out.

Hi I'm attending COD. I was on the list for the Jan start for the nursing program. The last time I check with the nursing dept. in November all the spots were filled. Also, this past year they have changed the requirements to get into the program. You now need to take the HESI, have your chemistry and first A&P done prior to appling to the program. It my understanding that if you don't have those courses done they will not even look at your application. Also they will not except Developemental Psyh any more you need to take Life Span. As for the HESI you need to past it with a score of 75% and the test wasn't that bad. I hope this helps.

Hi! I go to COD. I am still working on my prereq's right now. I am just about to start A&P II and speech. I still have nutrion, Micro and Math for Medical. I took the HESI in November and I really thought it was a joke. I got a 90% on math and trust me, math is NOT my strong point. It is just a very basic test all in all. What I would recommend is going to the library and printing out the practice booklet they have. Just go to the main desk and ask for it. They won't let you check it out, but you can copy it. That is what I used to study.

I am not sure how many applicants there were this year. I think around 200-300.

Good luck!!

I go to COD, but am not in the nursing program. I'm taking my prereqs there.

Is anyone from COD taking A&P II? I just started last week.....

Hi:

I'm starting A&P I on Monday (tomorrow). I'm also taking speech. Have more than 1/2 of my pre-reqs done. Still have chem, micro, nutrition and A&P II left.

Stellina- are you taking with or without cadaver?

I am taking it with the cadaver. Who are you taking for A&P and speech?

Hi:

Taking in Carol Stream with an instructor Sayyed and speech is Ryzewski. Who do you have? Also, did they have you learn the metric system in A&P? I know nothing about this.

I am taking A&P with Rundell and speech with Slott. No, we didn't have to learn the metric system for class. I am sure I will have to learn some for my math class though.....
