Me too, me too.
I just graduated from an associates program here in NYC and I just landed my first position as a new nurse in a labor and delivery unit. I am on a few clouds and cannot wait to get started.
Please note that not all hospitals will hire new graduates into this specialty. In New York City, there are a handful of hospitals that will; all others require prior experience (at least 1-2 years).
Try all the hospitals in your area that hire new graduates and do not give up.
It is possible.
Take care! :)

I'll be graduating from an ADN program in June. I applied for a position in LDRP in December and I was hired in February (actually might have been January, it's all a blur ). I start June 27th! I just finished up clinicals in MCN today in the hospital where I'll be working and I can't wait to get back. 95 days until graduation!!

It may make you feel good, but is it best for the patients? I think not. Bad medical things happen to patients in L & D and they deserve to have a nurse with some actual experience in caring for sick people. It really limits you when you have a skill in only one, teeny tiney specialty and have never taken care of a real patient - not someone going through a healthy, normal experience (that sometimes might be better of delivering in the subway...but that's another story).

Hello everyone! I just want to say I love this forum...I am graduating this June from an ADN program in NYC and more than anything want to go straight into L&D.
MelitaRN, would you mind telling me which hospitals in NY will hire as a new graduate L&D nurse? I'm planning on applying to hospitals that hire new grads, but if you can give advice on where to apply I would really apperciate it. Thanks in advance!

I am not a nurse yet, but when I had my daughter I had 3 different nurses. They were all new grads. I don't know if I could be a L&D nurse. The whole time I was screaming, and I really tried not to. I don't know if, as a nurse, I could take all the screaming. LOL! But yes is the answer to your question.
