Any Chamberlain RN-to-BSN that have gone on to FNP?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hello all. I'm looking to get into an FNP program as soon as possible, before the big 2015 switch to DNP. I know there's some question as to whether or not the move to DNP for FNP's will happen across the board in 2015, but one of my local schools has already gotten rid of their MSN/FNP and moved to DNP/FNP, with a few rumors of other area schools following suit very soon.

To that end, I'm really looking at Chamberlain's online RN-to-BSN, because it will be the fastest route to a BSN for me. Otherwise, I'll have to take a ton more gen ed classes, which will put me another year behind.

My question is to those who have completed Chamberlain's RN-to-BSN and have gone on to FNP programs. Has anyone gone this route to FNP, and has the Chamberlain degree been an issue with getting into a good FNP program? I'm aware that Chamberlain's program is CCNE and NLN accredited, but it's very light in sciences, and I didn't know if this would be a speed bump in moving on to FNP.

Not really looking for speculation or opinions here :D Looking for people who have actually gone or attempted to go this route and what problems, if any, were had. Thanks!

I spoke with Chamberlain yesterday. My only hesitancy is financial. If they were less expensive I'd be on it. I am curious about states not accepting them. They have 3 accrediations which from my understanding requires a renewal process. If these on line programs have these credentials what's the problem? I've heard people dismiss some schools as diploma mills. If they are credentialed then they meet requirements don't they? I personally don't wish to spend extra time on a BSN when my goal is NP. I'm going to call our state board today and the NP school I want to attend. Keep us posted DonaldJ.

Thank you Donald for sharing that information. Please do update us when you find out.

Has anyone decided? NP program in my state says Chamberlain is fine. Can't get ANY feedback about Ohio Univ program which makes me leary. Would love to know more about demands of Chamberlain program. To be honest I want to save the blood, sweat and tears for NP school! So, WyndDrivenRain can you share more or PM with those details??? DonaldJ, I hope you get an answer soon.

Wouldn't it depend on the program? There are Universities here in California which would require you to take additional classes, such as Nursing Research and pathophysiology before applying. That's why I ultimately decided on my program at a California State University. I didn't want to have to take any extra classes between now and grad school because courses were lacking in my BSN. I think where you go is going to have a lot to do with it, I would contact the MSN programs you are interested in directly to make sure.

Still waiting on a reply from the TN BON. Will update when I get something back from them.

I called and asked a Chamberlain advisor about the info Donald shared. The way she explained it was that this was a small issue temporarily affecting current residents of Tennessee. She stated that this would not affect me (who graduated as an RN from TN, but live elsewhere now and would like to return to TN for a master's program after completing the RN-BSN). The way she explained it was as if it had nothing to do with the board of nursing. I can't vouch for what I was told and will look forward to hearing what Donald learns from the TN BON. Attending Chamberlain would enable me to graduate at least 6 months earlier than the other programs I've checked into.

This is the response I got back today from the TN BON when I asked if Chamberlain's RN to BSN was approved by TN.

The Tennessee Board of Nursing is not able to approve out of state on-line schools because our law requires a site survey. The Board has no way to conduct a survey in another state. It would be a good idea to check with the MO Board of Nursing. The TN BON requires that you get your initial licensure education from an approved school of nursing in any state as long as the education is equivalent. After you have your RN license, we do not monitor your higher education, unless you are in a Tennessee school.

So, it looks like it doesn't matter as long as you already have initial licensure. I'm going to get back with the rep I've been speaking with at Chamberlain to get clarification.

I would recommend Chamberlain to anyone! I finished (10 classes) in 7 months and drove 3 states over to attend my graduation ceremony it was beautiful and soo worth it! I had no life but Chamberlain when I was doing the program because I took 5 classes per semester and took my laptop everywhere I went. I spent nights criying because I had to write stupid papers and I regreted taking so many classes at once. I have no kids and I worked parttime during that time..It was last year..anywho I hope this helps

oooh and there was one MSN grad at our ceremony she graduated solo and shined in her glory cuz she shared her hooding ceremony with no one- all the BSN grads were just looking at her in awe..I enjoyed the experience, advisement team, classmates- all of it BUT it was hella expensive! Still worth it tho..sorry if I'm rambling lol

Murse901.. are you now taking classes at Chamberlain? I know your post is almost a year ago but I have the same exact question you had. I am considering Chamberlain but just really want to make sure that I will not have a problem applying for FNP program around where I live (CT). If anybody has any advice or reassurance, please send it this way, I really want to start sooner than later. Thanks in advance :)
