I just recieved a letter from the school today with the health letter in it. I found my immunization card and realized I need to get some shots. Scheduled that for next week. I'm excited, yet nervous about what is to come. Does anyone have any idea if you can borrow more from student loans to cover childcare and book costs?

Although i'm not accepted into the boswell program..i believe that some, if not all, the MCCCD community colleges are going to the "voucher for books" thingy. I'm a little nervous about that one.
I will be in the Scottsdale program starting fall and just received an email from them stating that financial aid will be disbursed in Sept! That's after school starts. I'm a nervous reck about finding funds to pay for school let alone books, even though the "voucher" is available to students who are receiving financial aid as soon as the first week of August.

Hi,
I got into the Boswell for the fall 2010 as well and I am soo nervous about my financial. I plan to get everything submitted by the end of May so that I can register and pay for the classes. And then I will talk to one of the advisors to see if I can get unsubsidized and subsidized loans to cover books, uniforms, and my apartments.. So in essence of your questions, I would suggest contacting an advisor.
Also.. I don't have kids but in the letter it did mention about childcare drop off @ Banner Boswell, is that only for orientation? maybe you can ask them about that to see if you can use it?
I completed the fafsa and they needed to verify my info, so I went to the Mesa campus and gave them my documentation. I was told it could take up to 40 business days to complete the verification, then I could apply for loans. My son is on the waiting list for the Boswell daycare center, but it will be over $100 per week for him to attend. In two years, it will cost more to have him in daycare then the actual nursing program will cost. I did speak to a nursing advisor who told me that I may be awarded enough loans to cover the daycare. We'll see. It's kind of stressfull waiting because without the loans I can't attend the school.
Hi Everyone,
For all of you that are attending MESA Boswell this fall 2010... did you guys start buying your books already?
I found the list here: http://www.bannerhealth.com/NR/rdonlyres/389988A5-9A43-4F28-BCFA-074D8F1A9A9D/47348/Blk1NUR151BOOKLISTFall106810.pdf
I'm just confuse because page 1 is a list of Required Textbook from unbound medicine which is an electronic version. I was reading in this forum how some sites prohibit the use of electronic gadget and I really don't know why we would need to buy it if we can't even use it....

I am attending the Banner Boswell location for fall 2010. I have not started buying books yet, I did see the list online though. To my understanding we need to have a PDA device (either a smart phone or actual PDA) and need to download the first list of books to it via unbound medicine. As for the second table of books on the list, we need to purchase the actual text books. Iam not sure where I am going to buy the text books from yet. Any1 know where your getting yours from yet? The bookstore, or amazon?Has anyone tried to sign in as guest on the drug calculation tutorial site, because I couldn't figure out how to sign in as a guest on there? Also, has anyone ordered the nurse pack or uniforms?

Hi Ladylove89!
I decided to wait until school starts to buy the PDA and the electronic version so I can talk to the professors to see if we really need it. I was reading somewhere here in all nurses and many were saying that you really don't need it or that it depends on the professors so I decided to hold on to that...
As for the other books, I started buying the books online except the ones that were part of the Eslevier package, those ones I have reserved and will buy it as a complete package because I want the electronic version of the books. But for the rest of the books I started buying them on half.com, amazon, and wal-mart (I know! I didn't know walmart sells textbooks). I am saving a lot!!!
Lovebum,
I have a smart phone so if we need a pda I was just going to use my phone. I plan to start buying my books soon, probably online. Well enjoy the rest of your summer, soon enough we will be busy busy busy with our first block.
I talked to ---- and she said the med calc exam is no longer pass or fail. Has anyone heard anything about that?
what is that class? is that a prereq?
It's the medication calculations exam. You use to get washed out of the block, if you didn't pass with 100% efficiency. I think the exam was given during each block (not sure).

Has anyone purchased a stethoscope, hemostats, or penlight? I only noticed these items listed briefly in the document entitled "What to Expect in Nursing School." The document only states that we should bring these tools to our clinicals. I thought they would be included in the Nurse Pack but, they were excluded. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
