Any Books Recommended for bio A & P for self study before I take the course?

Published

Does anyone have any books that are recommended that I can buy to study and prepare myself for my biology classes? I am pursing nursing but am taking generals right now and wont be taking bio A&P until about a year from now. I would like to prepare myself to succeed in those classes so that I can earn good grades.l I have heard that A & P is challenging and a lot to remember. I just want to be prepared the best way I can.

there is a book called: getting ready for a & p. see website....i have a copy, if you want contact me, i would be happy to give it to you, free of charge. otherwise, you can get it on ebay for just a few dollars. it basically helps you review what you need to know to learn a p.

my other suggestion, is if you can get your hands on a lab manual....even slightly outdated....the kind where there are diagrams and fill in the blanks, that would be really helpful. this is the lab manual we used, and it has you label diagrams, but also explains funtion, location, etc in written paragraphs.

Listen to the A and P podcasts by Dr. Cizadlo on the St. Scholastica website. I spent many hours on the lawnmower the last few summers soaking up the big picture. Simply fantastic! (The podcasts are also available on iTunes.)

You are going to NHCC correct? I would focus on getting your science courses done as soon as possible. How many classes are you taking each semester? Do you have any completed? Let me know. I just applied at NHCC and am happy to help you get through the muddy water there.

yes I am going to NHCC...since I had not been to school in years ( a regular college anway), I had to take the assement test first, so they recommended that I take some generals before I even take prereqs...I just finished taking: your first year experience and and English course..Ihave to take another english writing course and the computational math course starting next week...and then all that will be left is some other english course they said i have to take ...Then I have the prereqs...Im trying to take 2 classes each semester. i do work fulltime. I wasnt sure if i should wait to take AP because I know I heard they expire within 3 years if you apply to a nursing program...can you give me some insight on this. Im so happy that I you replied...and are willing to help me get through the muddy waters? are you taking your prereqs now?

I am done with my prereqs. I have applied to the program. I will hopefully find out by May 1st. As for the classes, the assessment test is only good for 3 years. The other classes will be accepted unless they are extremely old. I had biology in 95 and it was accepted. Good luck with your classes this semester. I am only taking Med Term 1 and 2 this semester.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, or send me an email.

Another option that you could try is to listen to A&P lectures online. Dr. C from St. Scholastica actually posts his A&P lectures to Itunes and they are very good. I found them to be very helpful when I took A&P, I also listen to pieces from time to time to refresh my memory.
