  1. So I received an email from the American Healthcare Council that I was nominated and selected to be listed in the 2017 awards program for top 100 of America's Best Nurses. Does this sound legit? Has anyone else been nominated for this? Honoring the Best Nurses in America | American Health Council If it's for real, I feel so honored! Thanks! Sarah
  2. I've actually seen this several times with increases in Haldol. The exact reason was unknown, but would always go away with a reduction in Haldol. I would believe your patient! These meds can do so many strange things.
  3. Hi, I graduated from Century College, which used to be the sister school of Inver. My best advice to you is to wait to buy books until first day of class, buy a really good stethoscope (think Littman). Get involved in a study group/make friends right away. Also jump into learning any new skills at clinical sites. Let me know if you have new questions.
  4. I took the Kaplan review course 3 days after graduation. The course was one week long. Then, I followed the Kaplan 2 week study plan, and took my Nclex at the end of it. So, I took the NCLEX 3 weeks after graduation and passed the first time. Most of the others I knew who took Kaplan passed on the first time. I really recommend it! Good luck! It's really exciting.
  5. I started private duty nursing as a new grad in June. Why not contact the nursing department of local community colleges. They could maybe post the information and new grads might come work for you. At my school employers can post jobs for free with the school on their website, and people can apply online for jobs. Also, how about local unemployment offices? Just some ideas!
  6. I'm taking my NCLEX June 7th. So nervous! I took the Kaplan classroom. Hope I pass!
  7. I wanted to chime it. I graduate from Century this May. The first time I applied I was given a wait list number of 78, and I did not get in that year. It might be a little different with the schools separating. At the time I was applying, the first 50 on the list were sent placed in the spring start date. Good luck to all of you! Let me know if I can answer any questions.
  8. Thanks! I am excited. I got my letter yesterday (Wednesday April 2nd). Good luck with NHCC!
  9. Did you get your letters yet? I got into Century's RN :yeah:program, and I start this fall. I hope things went well for you!
  10. Well it kind of depends.... you get extra points on your application if you have A's or B's in those classes. Last year I applied and I only had biology 1020, chemistry and medical dosages, terminology, and psych done. I had a gpa of 3.57 and I was given a wait list number of 85. Considering they usually place 65 of the people on the wait list, I didn't think that was so bad. Now that I have A & P I, II and micro done I will have 3 more points on my application. I do have over 480hrs of experience, however it is a couple years old. When I met with an advisory, they said as long as it was within 5 years it counted. So, I think it could be possible that you get in. If you have over a 3.5 gpa that helps. I know someone who had the same classes as me done, however he had a 4.0 gpa and he got into spring session. I wouldn't count on getting into the fall session. Hope this helps! Good luck
  11. Well, I am not at Inver Hills, but I am at their sister school, Century. I am waiting to see if I get in. I have the experience...but its a couple years old. I have decent grades...but am worried if my gpa is good enough....I hate the wait!!
  12. Have you ever considered just doing the test out option to become a CNA? There is an option, that you can study and practice on your own, and take the CNA test on your own. You still have to pay to take the exam, but it will be much cheaper than taking the class! See link for info. You can schedule the test through several community colleges, and the Red Cross in Minneapolis. http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fpc/profinfo/narinfo/aboutnar.html#Howto Taking the test will run you approximately $180.
  13. I am a student at Century, so I applied to Century, NHCC, MCTC and Saint Paul College. You can apply to as many programs as you like. My school encourages you to apply to others considering their program is so competitive. Is this your first time applying?
  14. I am with you! I am a student at Century College, and am waiting. However, I am applying to others schools including NHCC, MCTC and Saint Paul College....but I know most schools give preference to their own students. Curious....what amount of classes do you have done? I have all my prerequs including Micro, A & P I, II. Good luck!
  15. there is a book called: getting ready for a & p. see website....i have a copy, if you want contact me, i would be happy to give it to you, free of charge. otherwise, you can get it on ebay for just a few dollars. it basically helps you review what you need to know to learn a p. http://www.mypearsonstore.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=0321493265 my other suggestion, is if you can get your hands on a lab manual....even slightly outdated....the kind where there are diagrams and fill in the blanks, that would be really helpful. this is the lab manual we used, and it has you label diagrams, but also explains funtion, location, etc in written paragraphs. http://he-cda.wiley.com/wileycda/higheredtitle/productcd-0471691224,coursecd-bg0300.html hope this helps! where are you taking your classes? i am at century and just finished with a p ii and microbiology.
