Any benefits with joining Phi Theta Kappa?

I just graduated from the LPN program and got the invitation. I'm planning to go back to that school and apply for the LPN-RN bridge program hopefully within this year or next year. Thing is, will it help when looking for jobs? Also, they give you something to wear during graduation in June but I already graduated at the end of Winter quarter (march 2012) - unless I go to the "official" graduation in June.

My mom LOVES it though and said many new grads (who've been lucky to be invited) used it on their resumes. (She's been a nurse for 30+ years). I guess I'd be doing this more for my mom than me. She's over the moon about it. I'm just glad I passed and graduated. WHEW!

Also keep in mind that you can still put it on your resume as "Selected for Phi Theta Kappa" if you choose not to join. That's what I'm planning to do.

Good day:

Prior to changing to nursing, I was in I.T. for approximately 30 years; the latter 18 I was involved in hiring/firing decisions. When hiring a person just out of college or technical school without any prior (related) work experience, I did consider any accolades achieved (i.e. Dean's list to stuff like PTK). I'm not sure if that works in the nursing field, but my feeling is that when I graduate, pass the boards et al, I will not have any "related" work experience unless I'm blessed along the way to find a PCT or related position (even then, it may not be considered proper experience). So PTK might help just a little... better than nothing.

Thank you.

I joined PTK back then to put on my resume and stuff. When I transfered to the University I attended I got a scholarship without realizing it, financial aid dept hooked it up. Was worth it imo even of it was only that first year.

I received a similar letter. My husband and I figured it would be an investment. Our cost was $90. So it isn't a huge cost, and hopefully at least one scholarship will come from it. I would recommend joining. We had our induction ceremony last night. Good luck.

I just received an email from them today and was looking for experiences as well. $90 isn't a while lot and I think it will look good on resumes and help getting into BSN program. I'm going to look at it a little more tonight. Happy to see this post!
