Any Arizona RN Estheticians out there?

U.S.A. Arizona

I'm new to forum and wondered if there are any RN Estheticians in the valley posting here or any who are interested in that field. Thought it would be nice to exchange information. Thanks

I am not an esthetician but am very interested in the field. I was looking into becomming Botox and Restyline certified and try to get a job with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Do you have any schooling suggestions? I have a friend who is taking classes locally, but I have also seen 8 hour courses elsewhere for certification. I was just wondering if it is a flourishing career choice...and if so, would I have to work under a physician or could I open my own clinic?

Hi,

That's pretty much what I would like to pursue, working for a derm or plastic doc. I have my Esthetician's license. I did 600 required hours at a school here in the Valley. You can go part time or full time. Full time is about 4 mos, part time was 7mos. I did for a base education. Now I would probably need to get certified in Botox, etc. Sometimes the doctor's will hire an RN and pay for the training.

I know that an RN has to work under a doctor if he/she is going to do invasive procedure. You need a medical director, even if he isn't on site.

So if you want to open your own business and do services like that you need the medical director. Or, open own business and just offer non invasive treatments for skincare facials, waxing, peels up to certain strength. It gets kinda tricky with procedure such as microdermabrasion and epidermal leveling. AZ State Board says no, need medical director involvement.

I will PM you.

Ivan57.......Tried to send you a private message but it won't let me. You may need to change your options to allow people to do that. Thanks

I did receive your msg via email. You have to excuse my lack of knowledge and navigation for this website. I'm new. :) Thank You for the information. So, are you currently working as an esthetician? Which school did you attend and what was the cost for tuition?

Ok. Click on "user cp" at upper left corner of yellow bar. Then click on "user options", scroll down to Private Messaging and put a check mark in box next to "enable private messaging". And remember to go to bottom and save changes.

This will allow member to private message you about information that they don't want to be public to all. And you don't have to give out your email address.

If you look at top of screen on far right side, you will notice blue words saying private messages. That tells you when you have one.

See if you can do that:)

I went to Arizona Esthetics Institute in Glendale. It was around $10,000. There are other schools too, but I checked them out and decided went with my gut feeling and it payed off. I passed state board with no problem and was glad I went there. They also run a school for permanant makeup too, but I couldn't afford that at the time, or now. I am waiting to get surgery for some problems I'm having and am not working yet.

You mentioned a friend having gone for certification for injectables like Botox etc. Where did they go and how much does it cost? Everything seems really expensive from what I can see on internet.

Oh, and it is a flourishing career. Medi spas are cropping up all over and that would be another option for an rn esthetician.

Thanks

I am new to this website and am learning so, much. I am an RN (9 yrs) and I attended Institute for Medical Aesthetics in scottsdale for advanced Botox and Dermal Filler tech. and became certified. That was over a year ago and it costed 2500.00. It was a two day course mainly based on book stuff. I was only able to practice each procedure once. Since you have to have an MD to order the products. I could not buy the products and practice at home. I have had no practice for a year??? I recentley called the school to see if I could come in for more practice. They said I could bring in 2 practice models and buy the products $500 a syringe/Restylane. $12/unit for botox. I cant find anyone who is willing to be my models??? The Doctor is their to supervise administration while u practice??? Anyone interested??? It would be a good learning exp. if u are interested in learning more about the field. I would ask for a little help with the cost of the restalyne (its kinda expens.) I allowed a newby to do me and I liked the results. I wanted to open my own spa and find a Medical Director to sponser me but, I have a long way to go to get the exp. to do it. It is hard to get hired with no exp.

I just sent you a PM

I bet it would be difficult to find customers too. I assume you'd need to work under a doctor's license so you would probably need to give him/her some % of each transaction.

It has risk factors related to allergic reactions, vascular occlusion, emboli, and infarction to name just a few.

Wonder why that 'institute' doesn't help set a practice up? They must have one or more doctors that could provide a license to work under.

I am curious about Botox, Restylane and Juvederm.....is this allowed in Maryland without a medical director? How much does a syringe of Restylane cost now?
