Any alternates accepted last minute?

Published

Hi everyone, I am an alternate for a BSN nursing program. I have been notified that it appears everyone that was offered a seat is going as of today. Although there is still a chance a seat may become available up until classes start in August. I was wondering if any of you were in a similar scenario where you were accepted last minute? I am losing hope I will ever be a nurse. Thank you for your thoughts. :-)

I was accepted to my program as tenth alternate. I had to go to orientation, get vaccinated, complete a background check, etc. all without knowing whether or not I'd actually get to start classes with everyone else.

There are always people who fall through the cracks. Some fail their drug test or background check. Some move out of state or applied (and were accepted) to multiple programs. Some just can't afford tuition.

Life is far from static and there's probably a 99% chance that some spots will open up. Your chances of taking one of the open spots depend on how far down the line of alternates you are and how many seats the program has available to start out with.

Good luck!

Thank you for your response. Well, there are 48 seats in total and 22 alternates. All they could tell me was that I am in the top third of alternates. I also had to complete all those requirements as well so I could be ready just in case a seat opens up. The advisor told me typically 5-6 seats open up. Although this time no one declined acceptance initially. Hopefully I can get lucky and get a seat.

I don't recall how close to the "last minute" it was, but I was placed on the waiting list for my school, because I had applied so late that they had already accepted a full class, and I got a call about two weeks later, telling me that there was a seat for me. This was many, many years ago (don't know if that makes any difference).
