Any advice?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am interested in becoming an registered nurse and have already applied to a private hospital's nursing program. My gpa isn't the greatest at 2.24 but I have no less than a B in all math and sciences. That gpa by the way was a product of working full-time as well as taking care of my girlfriend and her parents. Both of her parents had cancer and I took care of their business during the day while going to school in the morning and working at night. I have done this for close to ten years and I screwed up a lot of classes except for all the pre-reqs. I wrote about my experiences in an essay required by that college, hoping that it will help.

What do all of you think? What are my chances of being admitted? Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

I have a bachelors degree in education with an overall 3.65 GPA. However, my school only used the grades and courses that were relevent to their program (ie, sciences, math, psychology, english, etc.) They then refigured my GPA based on those courses and I think I had a 3.85.

If you did well in prerequisite courses and explained the situation for the other grades, I think you have an great shot at an RN program. However, apply to more than one school. You never want to limit your options and put all of your "eggs in one basket".

Good luck!

Is your GPA from college courses??

Id say it shouldnt knock you out of contention and with that essay explaining things they should be understanding. Most nursing programs (at least mine does) requires you keep a C or better and we are on a 7 pt. grading scale. which means we gotta get a like a 77 or so. If you translate that into GPA terms thats like having a 2.8 min on 10 pt grade scale. Anyways.. you should have a good shot at it and I hope you get in. Just remember its hard work and you will need to perform better than you have in the past!

Good Luck

I think you have a great chance. Life experience is worth something too! Plus you did great on the prereqs- where it counts. Good Luck!

The school i attended required a GPA of 2.5 to even apply to the program. If you had a 2.5 or higher then what they took into major consideration was math class/english/sciences. Good luck.
