Hi all

I have found this community to be very uplifting, and supportive, as well as truthful, and brutally honest. (all of which are good things to be!)

I am in an AD-RN program, getting geared up to start our last two semesters of nursing school, and am getting a little (LOT) worried, and trying to tell myself, hang on, do the best you can, yadda....yadda....yadda.....stop worrying, yadda.....yadda....yadda.....

I guess the 'fear' started when nursing students who have graduated say that when you get to your second year, you'll realize how great, fun, and easy the first year was. Well, let me tell you.....the first year was harder than any class I've ever taken. (maybe this is where I should put in, that after first semester finals last year, I was so worried about the tests, etc., that I actually broke out in a rash! took WEEKS to get rid of it!) I liked the second semester more, I have to say, because it seemed like we were getting more of the 'nuts and bolts' of nursing, and learning alot more about nursing then. So, if the second year is way much harder than the first.....~~~~EEEKKK!!!!!

Surely to goodness and back, it couldn't be any harder/rougher than first year was? could it??? {{{gulp}}}......:o

Any advice from ones who have been there, done that, or are in the same boat???

I studied just as much for my last two semesters as the first 3. However, I got the hang of what I was doing by this time so maybe thats what they are talking about being easier. It's still a lot of work but you have a system by this time of how to go about it. Especially, for clinical I had made templates so careplans and research didn't take me so long. Also, believe it or not, you actually start to just know some of the information so it is not like you have to look every little thing up. Good luck!!!

For me it was easier mentally because I had the groove of nursing school down but the work was still challenging. We lost quite a few of the students that struggled through year 1 so don't lose focus and do stay on top of your assignments. The material does get more interesting, imo, because as you said it is more the nuts and bolts of it all. The time will fly by. You can do this!

I'll be a senior in a BSN program this year. Although I've heard senior year classes are definately hard- by this time you are used to nclex style (tricky!!!) questions, know the teachers, and hopefully have learned how to study. You also already have a base of knowledge to build off of which should help in upper level classes.

i dont see how anyone going into their senior year could need the advice. by now you should know what to expect and how to handle it. no new surprises from here on out.

i start my last semester of my BSN in August and I'm stoked! Easy classes (community health and senior theory) for the last semester and no surprises ftw!

I can understand where you are coming from, at our school nursing is all a big secret! Before you get in you can't find out about anything to expect and then after you are in you get sketchy details about each semester before hand. We have been told by our teachers that 2nd and 3rd Semesters are the hardest b/c of Med/Surg 1&2 and then supposedly from what the 2nd yrs have told us last semester is much easier. You know most of what you need by then and the instructors ease up a lot...I hope that is true b/c I just finished my first year also, and I'm not looking forward to 3rd semester, but having an easier semester at the end would be nice!:o:chuckle

thanks for all the advice! It does help, and though I'm worried, I'm sure I'll get through it. I'm kind of excited about what we'll learn, but am nervous about all the material, etc..... my poor lil brain can only hold so much! lol
