Any advice for future GCC sophomore???

Published

Is there any advice for someone (myself :uhoh21:) who literally passed the 2nd semester by the skin of her teeth? I seem to be studying all the time, but it seems as though I'm concentrating on the wrong things. Thank goodness that my best grade was on the final! That's what saved me from having to take this semester all over again.......a year from now!

Can hardly wait to get this thing going again!

are you talking about Grayson

I just graduated in May from Grayson

Sophmore year u have to step your game a little bit.

In my case, for me to understand the medical diagnosis, i needed too understand the pathophysiology.

For example i can't just learn or should I say memorize the nursing interventions for a client with COPD or CHF

I had to learn the pathophysiology of COPD and CHF, bcause if I can understand how COPD and CHF affect the body, then I can understand the nursing interventions for a clientwith these diagnosis

I hope I am explaining this clear

Instead of stdy the just the nursing interventions or what the nurse is suppose to do. Try to understand how the diagnosis affects the body, then study teh nursing interventions because the interventions will make more sense and come to you easier

Yes, I just completed my 1st year at Grayson. Thank you for your advise, and it does make sense to me. May I ask you this: Are the sophomore instructors' test questions anywhere near like the freshman instructors' test questions? I won't elaborate as to why I am asking you this question. I do believe that you know why I wonder this.

Anyway, congrats on your recent graduation from the program. I hope to be in your same place a year from now.

I guess the sophmore test questions are more critical thinking test questions. I really couldn't tell that there was a difference. But I will say this that the material in 3rd semester is harder, it incorparates what you learned in 2nd semester into diagnosis, if that makes sense.\

For example you learn about diabetes in second semester, in the sophmore year you will learn about the complications of diabetes such as DKA and HHNS (HHNK). you have learned about hypertension and vascular disease, now you are going to learn about CHF (congestive heart failure) and other heart problems.

Oh yeah one more thing the sophmore instructors are awesome, but they don't play they expect you to be on top of your game, but they are are really helpful

tell you what just send me a PM and we can discuss this in more detail

I just graduated in May also with ICU2008.:grad:

The material third semester does get harder. In my opinion it was the hardest semester of the whole program as I though 4th semester was easier. I agree that pathophysiology is one of the most important things you can focus on in NS. If you can understand what is going on in the disease process, your nursing interventions seem to fall into place. But take comfort in the fact that some of the interventions become repetitive and you find yourself knowing what to do before they even say it. The good thing is you start feeling more comfortable with the knowledge you are using over and over.

The sophomore instructors are awesome. They have a lot higher expectations from the students which is expected because you are now at a higher level. The questions are very similar to freshman questions. Just remember they will not hesitate to throw in some questions they may not have covered, but believe you should know by this point. You should be looking at the whole picture.

You are going to be just fine. Make sure and enjoy this break because you have deserved it and it is much needed. Get ready for Psych and have fun with it.

Feel free to PM me with any questions at any time! Congratulations on making it to sophomore level!:yeah:
