moving to Frisco, Texas???lpn/rn programs
Grayson County College has an excellent LVN-RN program. I met many of them when they transitioned to the RN program and they REALLY knew their stuff. Very tough program but well, well worth it in the long run!

MA's in Texas
How does that work in a hospital setting? Are they even using MA's in hospitals in Texas? I ask this because I read a thread that got me interested in the topic and cannot find the answer. I guess I could just take the NPA and consider it the same as an unlicensed assistive personnel? I appreciate your reply!

MA's in Texas
Can someone please tell me what the scope of practice for a MA is in Texas? I have looked online and can't seem to find the information. Thanks in advance for all posts!

Hospitals in the Sherman/Denison area
The two major hospitals in Sherman/Denison are Texoma Medical Center (Denison) and Wilson N. Jones (Sherman). Both are good rural hospitals. TMC just broke ground to build a new hospital that should be complete in late 2009 or early 2010. The pay there is slightly lower than the pay in the metroplex. For a new graduate, the pay is a lot less. I was told by nurses working there if you work PRN the pay is a lot better. Not really sure what you would like to know or how much I can help you. Please feel free to PM me if needed! Oh and the people in the area are extremely nice and the area is growing rapidly!

Crying at pinning...
I will gladly be called a dork for crying at pinning! I thought I might...then as it got closer, I thought I wouldn't because of all the stress. But when I walked in that auditorium and heard the music and everyone was standing and clapping and cheering....I was totally overcome. You could feel the pride in the air!!! I cried for the next 15 minutes. Then things kind of calmed down during the ceremony and I was crying again as I was leaving and my daughter was waiting along the aisle to give me a hug and kiss. It was such an emotional evening!! The next time I cried was off and on for 48 hours while I waited for my NCLEX results. And the flood gates were even harder when I found out I passed! Everyone works very hard during NS and when all that relief comes flooding in when you realize YOU ACTUALLY MADE IT, it is not unusual to cry your eyes out! Good luck to everyone on NCLEX!!

PSA Result Question
We were taught (recent grad.) that normal PSA is less that 4. It is slightly elevated with BPH, prostatitis and prostatic infarction. At a level of 10, they worry about prostate CA but it is not definitive and a DRE should be done too. Hope this helps and if it is wrong, someone please correct me as this is how I was taught.

Took NCLEX Today... :( Feel Like I Failed!
I had 30 SATA questions on my NCLEX and do not feel that all of them are higher level questions. I had some that were simple/easy......and some that were very difficult. So I do not feel that the fact it is an SATA makes it a higher level question, I think it comes down to what the question is asking....just like any other question on the exam that is not a SATA! P.S. I honestly thought I failed too but ended up passing. This is a normal feeling!!! Try your best to take it easy even though I know that is very hard to do!

I applied for one internship that wanted you to have your exam taken before the first day of internship, but I did not take that position, I took another one. The hospital I am going to did not have a time-frame. In Texas you get a GN license for about 90 days. Most of the internships only required you to have your GN license for the internship. And all the job postings were for a "GN Internship", not RN. Some of my classmates did not want to sit for NCLEX until after a few weeks of internship hoping it would allow them to further their learning. I guess what I'm trying to ask is: do all states issue a GN license upon graduation? And if not, is this why they are wanting you to take the exam before starting (so you would have some type of license)? I just hope the time limit does not cause people to sit too early for the exam if they are not prepared! P.S. with the GN license only being good for 90 days, I guess it is a time frame. It's just set by the state and not the facility.

Pearson Quick Results
unpetitpoulet, I know how you feel. HANG IN THERE! I had my first panic attack ever the night before I got my results. I couldn't breathe, I was shaking all over....a test question popped in my mind and I could only remember one answer that was totally wrong and was convinced I picked that for for my answer because I could not remember any of the other choices. I kept trying to wrack my brain and the anxiety got even worse. I KNEW I totally bombed the test. I guess the test saw something I didn't see because I passed. I know this doesn't help you, I just hope you know that it's normal to be so totally stressed out!! PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED. I AM PRAYING FOR YOU!!!

Med-Surg Roll Call
I am new to this thread as I am a new RN that just passed NCLEX a couple of days ago!!!! I start my new position in med/surg on a medical/oncology floor in their internship program. Unlike my other classmates, I believed I should lay a good foundation before specializing and believe I will see variety in my patients. I will be in an area where I can further my education and hone my skills. I honestly think I am the only person in my graduating class that made that choice. I hope I love it and never go anywhere else. I am scared, nervous, but also excited at the same time! Nice to meet everyone!

Time savers....please.
This is an excellent question and since I am a new grad starting med/surg next week......I would love to see the responses! Thanks for asking!

Piercings in North Texas.
I am starting at Denton Regional and their dress code specifically says "no exposed body piercing jewelry other than two earrings per ear".
