    New job at Integris

I'm sooooo excited to be starting a new journey with Integris. My aunt was in Integris as a patient for weeks and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the attitudes of the nurses. So I decided I was ready for a change anyway and applied and got the job.

The rest of my response is in a post above this one, but of course they know I hold them accountable in everything they do. I said I was positive but I also said in my other post on geriatric forum That I am firm in what i expect from them

I have been through the QIS training TWICE. I will not set myself up for failure, love to learn and i know my state regulation, I have the State Operations manual Guidance to Surveyors for LTC facilities saved to my computer, phone, and Ipad and read every chance I get. I have all the QIS forms from the qtso (QIS) website and i use them everyday at work for chart checks and when I do my rounds. I even ask the floor nurses who've been in LTC for help when I am not quite sure of something. I've never claimed to know it all but I have vowed and I am dedicated to learn it all. Although I had 10 years of CNA and med aide experience in LTC I did not have a LTC background in nursing, but i when I took the position I took it upon myself to learn everything i possibly could and I am continuing to learn everyday.

I don't have neither I have my associate degree. I actually believe if I had applied I wouldn't have got the position. It was a blessing that I worked there part-time already. We are a 60 bed facility so my duties include supervising the staff, monthly pain assessment, quarterly assessment, admission, infection control, weekly akin assessment (we have a tx nurse and a wound care dr comes in every week), doing rounds with the NP and dr when they round, chart audits, reviewing and signing off on MDS and care plans (which are done by the ADON), handling day to day issues, staffing, interviews, hiring, education. You name it i do it lol and I live every minute of it even stressful days like today lol.

CNAs are the back bone of LTC. Even in the hospital I worked in critical care and we did not have aides so I did total care. Believe me when I tell you I don't care about the initials behind my name or anybody else's name all I care about is the residents getting take care of. If that means me or the other nurses giving a shower, changing a depend, turning a resident, taking a resident to the restroom that what will be done. I don't like to over work my staff, right now I am actually over staffed LOL. I know it seems like I'm selling a dream but its all true. If my staff is happy then my residents are taken care of and happy. Thanks everyone I will continue to stay positive and doing my best to keep everything going well.

Thank you!!!!!! It was a challenge but I am glad I stayed. I am the type of person that has respect for everyone and I see myself as my staff's equal. I do not rule with iron fist , I am firm in what I expect from them but at the same time I do it with respect. I believe it starts with the higher ups Leading by example. The same things that I expect for them to do I also do my self. My first day I told them what I was bringing to the table (and kept my word) and then told them what I wanted from my staff. I'm just thanking the good Lord it's working out.

    New DON

I've been a RN for 4 years, before that I was a Med aide and a CNA for 10 years working in the nursing home. When I became a RN I worked in cardiac critical care . A few months ago I decides to work in the nursing home part time due to I missed working with elderly. Well the Don left and I was ask if I would be interim DON for 30 days and I accepted, after 30 days I was ask to stay on as the DON. I thought sure ill try it I would like to make a difference right. Well I can positively say my POSITIVE ATTITUDE did change the morale in the building. I am very hands on and I have filled in every position from CNA to charge nurse and because of this I believe I gained their respect and trust. My staff has become very POSITIVE and really put our residents FIRST. I am so glad a took a chance and made a difference. I LOVE MY JOB

I receive my temp license yesterday from Oklahoma BON. I would just like to say the BON was very professional and as soon as I had on the proper paperwork submitted, I received my temp license on the spot (I actually went in person to the BON). i must say I was very impressed throughout the entire process, they made my move from Texas alot easier.
