Anxiety much?

Published

OK, so now that I have been accepted into a BSN program, I need something else to get anxious over and obsess about.:uhoh3:

So, I come here and read the boards and see what I am in for.

I am *terrified* after reading some of these threads and seeing how many people flunk classes and programs. Students that do really good before nursing are flunking???

I understand that nursing school is different than our normal classes, but I've gotta say....I'm scarred to death. I've wanted this for so long and I'm terrified that I might flunk.

I know, I know...not a good attitude to have, but I can't help it. I'm just in a whirlpool of anxiety over this!!:uhoh21:

Me, too!!! I'm work my butt off in school but I'm still worried!

i'm there too!! yikes. so much pressure. we're suppose to enjoy our summer before we start school. all i can think about is how well i'll do

once i start. i obsess about it on a daily basis.

Hey guys--save the anxiety for clinicals--tehe. Really, you will do fine. Just work hard and stay low to the ground! :)

Yeah, there are real live people who do make As in nursing school, aren't there?? From what I read on these boards, they seem few and far between...My life won't end if I have less than a 4.0, I promise, but I need to reconcile myself with the fact that every single person in my class has a previous degree finished, along with all their prereqs, with a minimum GPA of 3.5, and that we won't all maintain that. I start May 14!

i will just say that what i've seen in my class so far is that the "students formerly known as 'a' students" are not the ones flunking out....they might not be "a" students anymore and are working their tails off to keep a "b", but they are not the ones we are losing...

we are losing: younger students who appear to have multiple priorities -- partying, gambling, socializing, and partying -- did i mention partying?; a few who i think had english-as-a-second language issues; a couple of young moms who realized that they really couldn't or didn't want to invest the time at this point; two students who "didn't know nurses had to do that!!".

i know a couple of students who want this who are borderline. i don't know if they have test-anxiety or don't spend the time studying or can't comprehend or what....but they're eeking it out each semester so far...

please don't spend a lot of time worrying about not passing. if you are serious about this education, you will be fine. stay on top of your reading/studying and get your rest. get help if you need it; most schools offer retention coaches, counseling, or at least one instructor who will be your cheerleader. find a mentor in an upper class student.

it is not all-encompassing; i do have a life outside of school, but when there's a test or a checkout or clinical paperwork that is due and has to be done, i'll guarantee you that we who are passing are doing it. period. we've committed to this program and understand there is an end in sight if we just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

if a pre-nursing student has this kind of will and commitment, you will most likely be fine. if you're doing this because your mom, dad, aunt, sister, uncle, or otherwise suggested or forced you in this direction, or you're hoping to meet dr. mcdreamy while you're in the hospital, you might struggle.

best wishes!!

It is eerily similar to what I was about to write. If you are doing well prior to entering the upper div of your BSN program, then you WILL pass the upper div. If you are unable to last 6 consecutive 24 hour periods without attending a bar crawl or drinking something that came from a keg/ice luge, then you might not. However, in my program, the hard workers get A's and B's, the partyers get C's and I guess my program just lets the NCLEX sort us all out in the end.

I'm graduating in Dec. and we've lost 4 out of 60. The only ones who didn't pass were people who straight up DID NOT ATTEND clinical days. Seriously, if you care as much as you seem to, you will thrive and enjoy the upper division. Best wishes!
