A nurse assesses a patient with a positive PPD. Which of the following is true concerning this situation?
a. the patient needs to be on contact isolation
b. the patient has antibiotics to the tuberculosis bacilli
c. the patient has an active TB infection
d. this patient will need to be on antibiotics for 3 to 6 years.
My answer was wrong. I won''t say which one she said it is, I was just curious as to how someone else might answer this, and possibly what the rational would be.
Thank you.

the answer is "b" b/c a positive PPD test indicates that you have antibodies to bacilli (tuberculosis). It is not definitive for TB.. Once you get a postive result further testing generally is indicated.
