I keep seeing posts about waiting lists for nursing school...and I have to be honest and say I didnt know there was such a thing.I thought...I wanna go back to school...If i can find the money I sign up and go...

How can I be so wrong?

In general, nursing school admission is either based on waiting lists or competitive entry. Both require that you have fulfilled/are currently fulfilling your prerequisites. There are a few schools out there that will combine prerequisites into their program. If you choose competitive entry (many BSN schools are based on competitive entry) you compete with other students for a nursing school spot, and deciding factors will be GPA, essay, past healthcare experience, volunteer/community work, etc.

Look up the nursing schools available in the area of your choice and then work through their admission requirements webpage.

good answer to this question. There is no wait list for the program that I am in, but it is very competitive. You are either in or out based on admission requirements and how you stack up with other applicants. I have heard or many programs that have wait lists, but not really sure how they work. Are they first come first served? How are the requirements for entry? Are there a set of requirements and as long as you meet those requirements your name goes on the list?

gosh

Don't get dicouraged. If it is what you really want to do get more information from your local schools and figure out a game plan to get you there. The school I go to is very competitive, but I got in the first shot. I believe the key is figuring out what you want, drawing up a game plan, and stay the course. Will it be easy? Nope. Will you get there eventually if you stick to your plan? Yep.

Good Luck!:)

i guess its worse for me because Im older and getting back in the game is hard enough.I have had years of awful jobs with rotten pay and I really want and need this

don't be deflated, put your mind to it, and youll do great - there are a ton of pre-reqs to take anyone, so technically even if you could be nursing right away, it wouldnt matter with so many courses to complete prior to the NUR courses. You can complete your pre-reqs and apply to the program your first semester and then go from there.

My local community college is very competitive, entrance is based on GPA of prereqs. But the next county over has a program that does not fill up, so you never know. My school has very detailed info about their nursing program on their website, so I would find out what the school(s) near you have to say.
