I just received my 2nd rejection letter from WSU in MN. I am beginning a collection, I think! The first one was hard, now I'm kind of numb, anyone else experience this? Yes it still hurts!! I keep hearing 'there is a nursing shortage, there is a nursing shortage' but the kind of people they let in are min GPA of 3.67! I'm just mad and hurt now, and I'll get off my soapbox!
I wish I could give you advice from experience but I was lucky to get accepted to the first school I applied to. If you have a wide array of prerequisites done then apply to every nursing school in your area, whether you love it, like it, or are uncertain. If you don't have the prerequisites done then get as many done as you can as fast as possible, concentrate on the sciences (A & P I & II, Microbiology) and do your best to get at least a B. The nursing shortage is a myth these days. Even new students who graduate are having trouble finding work. But keep up the applications and you're bound to get accepted by somebody.
also consider private universities. I attend a small Christian one in AZ and while the cost can be a bit higher than the state school, if you have better than a 3.3 you're pretty competitive, whereas at ASU a 3.9 is min for competitive, plus having applied at least twice.... As for cost, there are scholarships available for GPA's over 3.4 and this brings the cost to exactly even with that of the state school... Good luck!
