Another A&P Question

Published

Here's another question for all of you who have already taken A&P. Is the chemistry a big part of your A&P class? I just got my book, and the first chapter is reviewing basic chemistry, i.e protons, nuetrons, electrons, ionic and covalent bonds, compounds, atomic numbers, etc. Did your instructors re-teach you guys this stuff, or basically just breeze through it? I ask because its been about seven years since I had a chem class (it was sophmore year of high school) and Im afraid that I will be completely lost. I am trying to read the chapter now and make some sense of the stuff, but I am scared that this will be one of the first things we go over and I will have no idea whats going on. :crying2: :crying2: Please tell me that your instructors spend time teaching that stuff.

I just finished taking A&P I and II last week, and my instructor spent a decent amount of time going over the chemistry. However, our classes were 4 weeks long each, so we did cover a chapter a day and chemistry was one chapter. He did tell us that we should have already had chemistry either college level or high school, so the chapter shouldn't be too hard. It really wasn't that bad because it was basic chemistry;we didn't go into much detail since it wasn't chemistry class..Hope this helps & good luck with your class!

We went over it for one chapter, but it does resurface when talking about how the cells exchange chemicals and such. A general basic knowledge is fine, then they will elaborate as things go on. I'm sure you'll be fine :)

I took Chemistry before my A&P classes...I am so glad that I did! There was alot of topics that were covered with the assumption of chemistry knowledge. It was clear during lectures that the students without chem had a more difficult time covering certain topics (active transport; muscle contraction; conduction of nerve impulses, etc). Of course each class/professor is different, this is just my experience.

Good luck with your class!

I think I may remember the basics...but perhaps Ill look into buying one of those books like "Chemistry made easy" or something like that. Thanks for the replies.

We skipped the chem and microscope chapters in A&P 1. ;)

oh i hope we do too!!!!

I just finish AP I & AP II this summer and the only chemistry was in the beginning about the cells.

Since Chem is required before attemption A&P, we breezed through it. Basically, it was assumed you knew it so we breezed through it and moved on the the microscopes (which again was assumed since Bio is before Chem) and moved to the cell and our first exam was composed of those three things.

It wasn't bad at all (coming from someone who detested chem) ;)

I know other instructors in the school put more enphasis into that chapeter while ours did not. Best of luck to you
