Im so friggen annoyed, I studied so hard, stayed after with my teacher prior to the test and she even layed it out what was gonna be on the test- i studied and i know everything thoroughly, i take thorough deatlied notes, read, and learn, not memorize the information....and i only got a 77- two points above failing! ***!!!!im so friggen aggrivated, the problem is the test questions. I thought i did so well, like in the mid to high 80's. I dont get it! How do you prepare for these NCLEX style questions? because i do practice questions on the cd that comes with the book, the ones at the end of the book- im in tears right now because no matter what i do- its not good enough and obviously im missing out on something! I need to have a 75 to continue in school- i have 2 tests left, and then the final in a couple of weeks...(5tests in all- and i have a 77% final grade) I assume our average of the tests is 50% and the final is 50%-but if im just making the mark on these, then its gonna be the same way on the final, even though i am just tryin to take this one test at a time. I mean i got an 81 on the first test and i didnt even really study, i missed 5 lecture hours....im so discouraged. Can anyone tell me what it is that i am missing
I am in the 4th semester, hoping to graduate in May (finally)!I can tell you that you cannot miss a 5 hour lecture, what are you thinking. also, you mentioned you did not study for a test?? You MUST study!! Develop study habits that work for you. Nursing school is tough, and it takes alot of work. Do not give up, but attend lectures, and study!! I can honestly say, I never miss school, unless I am dying! I am proud to say I have a 3.7 GPA, and I am getting an A so far in Adv. Clinicals.
good luck, and keep on studying.
missing school isnt a habit of mine- i missed lecture due to legal issues(a whole other story) and by not really studyin i mean i had no notes to study from, so i just used the books and taught myself- its very hard for me to understand peoples notes- si i figured that would be a waste of time
What about taking your own note? That is what I do, prior to the lecture. Write the important points of the chapter, along with the page numbers. That way, you know where to refer back to. Then, if you have any questions, ask your teacher at lecture. Always pre-read what the teacher is going to talk about. It reinforces what you read. Another good thing is taping lectures. I always do this for my theory classes, and I play them back when I am studying for a test, which is what I am doing today. I have a test tomorrow in Complex Health Alterations 2.
This is what works for me. I did not mean to offend you with missing class, but you know how it is. There are some students who don't come, then are upset when they are not doing well.
good luck, and hang in there!

Try doing questions from an NCLEX review book. I have Lipponcott's Review for NCLEX-RN (8th ed)and it's great...it has lots of questions for med/surg. It breaks down into sections of 4 areas of nursing:med/surg, pediatrics, maternity, and mental health. Each of those areas then breaks down into further sections..in the case of the med/surg area it breaks down by body systems (respiratory, endocrine, etc). What's even more helpful is, for example, the respiratory section will divide into mini-sections based on a certain diseases (Pneumonia, lung cancer, etc.) so you can focus on the med/surg questions that relate to your course material.
It's helpful for me so when I'm learning cardaic..I am able to do only cardaic questions as I study :) That way I can focus on what we're studying in lecture at that particular time. The book is a really great investment and has helped me pass all of my nursing classes to date.
