Hi everyone! I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions, materials, or information regarding the ANCC FNP exam 2017. I have taken the exam twice and failed. I am currently 17 points away but continue to struggle. It has been a very frustrating journey so far. I am planning on taking the exam again April, 2017. Study materials I have used are Leik, Fitzgerald, APEA Q-bank, Flash cards, and practice exams. I feel like I have spent a lot of money on this exam and am hoping not to buy more materials if possible.
After taking the exam this past time the test is a blur. There was definitely a lot of professional practice information on the test but I struggle with this topic and am not sure how to tackle it. Any help would be so appreciated.
Thank you!

Hello! I (like many) felt compelled to come back and post after using much of what was already posted to pass the FNP exam. I took AANP shortly after finishing my program (before I even graduated) after studying 2 weeks or so and going to the Fitzgerald review. I failed. I then took ANCC after studying for a month and doing the APEA review and passed! Happy to answer questions or provide support. It sucked to fail and I honestly couldn't even believe it....as all my classmates were passing and saying how easy it was! I thought they were both hard...and I had to study accordingly! Good luck to all! [email protected]
Hello
I am new to this site. It helped me when I was not successful on the AANP exam in June. I decided to sign up for the ANCC exam after reading some of the comments on this site. I took the exam on August 9th, and I passed. I'm still reeling from the results and I wanted share some of my study tips.
First, the Barkley Review was a required segment of my final class. So having those CD's and the review book to consistently refer to was extremely helpful. Next I went through the Fitzgerald review book from beginning to end. The book also provided access to over 2000 questions. I also went through the Leik review book and answered the 500 questions in the back of the book. ANCC also has free practice quizzes online which I took. So I would say that on average I did about 3800 questions for the review.
I read where ANCC had less clinical questions than AANP, so I did a thorough review of Quality Improvement, Medicare, Research Methodology, Nurse Practice Act, Malpractice, etc.
If you cover those non-clinical topics and do an in- depth clinical review you will be successful.
Also I set aside time every single day that was dedicated to review of the material...
Good luck!!!!
Hi,
I am sorry that you failed the first time, do it again soon.
I took ANCC on September 1st and passed. I reviewed for 6 weeks, the first 4 weeks I did Hollier videos, Leik book, Leik App, Board Vitals, FNP Mastery and the APEA QBank. Then August 17 purchased Fitzgerald online, did it from August 17-31. I recommend Fits Non-clinical's but since I can not access the non-clinical part (last section of the lecture), I was forced to do the review from the very beginning, then was forced to follow Fitz "knowledge is power." I used the QBanks as a reward after each system. That 6 weeks of review include 3 days a week shift for 12 hours. I am just glad it is over. My advise, build on your knowledge, use Qbanks after each system. Do not rely fully on qBanks, it will bite you back. Once you know your material, whatever question you'll have you will be able to answer it. Prayer to calm my nerves also helped. I was so focused during the test, and was excited to submit "end of exam" and was telling my self, "I will walk out that door an NP," and it works. Goodluck.
I passed ANCC in September. Buy or rent the Buppert book on NP professional issues. I found it to be helpful. She gives examples of documentation, malpractice, reimbursement, billing, and coding. The book is an easy read.
As other posts have mentioned, build your knowledge. Thoroughly review USTPF guidelines for screening and vaccinations. You can download it to your phone and review it anywhere.
The American Association of Dermatology has a great website with skin photos and treatment. Keep looking at photos of conditions as you study. I printed them and pasted the images to flashcards for my reference.
You must build your knowledge to make the correct clinical decisions for this exam. The qbank questions are not at all representative of the test. FNP Mastery best represented the SATA questions. FNP Mastery also covers nonclinical questions well. Fitzgerald has additional handouts and an online lecture on professional issues. All of the above are helpful.
Last but not least, read in your free time. I believe ANCC questions are feasible if you take the time to think about what the question is asking. Reading comprehension is a key component to pass this exam.
Good luck!

Oct 2017 Today I took the ANCC-FNP and missed it by a couple of points. I did pretty good in the clinical part of the test, but no that great in the non-clinical part. Lots of research questions, leadership, and therapeutic communication. I used different books and I don't think any of them had enough information on the topics being tested. Please Any suggestion on where I can find good information to study on this non-clinical topics. My email [email protected].
Anyone getting ready to take the test make sure that you study the non-clinical part of the test.
