Anatomy and Physiology II

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I’m a pre-nursing student. In high school I took A&P 1 and I got an A-, and now as a junior in college I need to take A&P II. My advisor said I should retake A&P 1 because I took it 2 years ago, and I didn’t take it at my current college. What do you guys think? How much harder is A&P II than A&P 1. Would it be okay if I just took A&P II right away? Thanks in advance!

What is the cut off for the course? My school you have to have taken all the A&Ps and Chemistry within 5 years of applying with a minimum of C+. How long ago did you take this? I honestly didn't think A&P2 was terribly hard, it just goes even deeper into what you learned in part 1. I'd say if you took A&P and got that good a grade and it was relatively recent (several years max), just go ahead and go with 2. No sense in paying for stuff you may not necessarily need.

Was this an advanced placement style class, or were you dual enrollment with a college at the time?

It's been a while since I've been in high school, but the anatomy class that I took in high school was nothing like the one that I took in college. Plus, the concepts build on each other, so you may be better off with this fresh in your mind. Maybe you can check out the book that you would be using at your campus bookstore, and flip through and see if you remember anything.

You should see if the nursing school you are applying to accepts high school A&P.

But they usually want it done at the same institution and preferably college courses.

I second this. At my CC, they do accept high school bio prereqs, but they only transfer as a C, even if you got an A in the HS course. Where I am it’s so impacted, a C is just not competitive enough for the core sciences and you’d be better off retaking it.

Otherwise, in general I’d be more concerned that the HS class wasn’t as comprehensive as it needs to be vs. having taken 2 years ago.
