Anatomy & Physiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

The professor has me very discouraged. I just registered today at a University as a non-degree seeking student because my LPN program is at a tech school. My A&P instructor emailed me saying I'm going to find the class very difficult without a Biology or Chemistry background.

The only biology I have is freshman year of highschool. I dropped out afterwards.

Any tips or suggestions? I feel like I can't do it now.

Most A&P classes won't even accept you without a college level bio class as a pre req. Your professor is right, you should not take that class without taking bio first

I didn't take a bio before anatomy which I'm taking now in a 6 week summer session and so far I have an A in the class with only 2 weeks left.. so no I don't think u absolutely have to as long as u are determined and focused.. its tough I have a 9 month old and an 8 year old but I'm doing it! It can be done! Goodluck!

I had to drop A&P I during the spring semester. I took Human Biology during the summer. I am going to take A&P again in the fall. I wish I would have done it that way in the beginning.

I took Biology back in 1985, and A&P I this Spring. My school will not allow you to take A&P without taking Biology first. It had been so long since I took Biology, the computer was prompting the admissions lady that I had not met the pre-reqs for A&P. I told her I had taken it so she had to pull up my transcript to verify. Basically, even though I had Biology in the past, it had been so long it was like not having it all. Also, I've never had Chemistry. I made an "A" in A&P but I also studied my butt off.

A & P is a tough class with or without biology. Don't feel like you can't do it. Honestly, how many students do you think actually remember everything they learned in remedial or BIO 101? You go over the basics in A & P before you get into the really complicated stuff. Get your book early and start reading chapter summaries. You will be fine.

Thanks guys. The reason I can't take biology before A&P is because just for A&P and Medical Terminology, I have to pay 1700 cash plus 450 for books.

I can't afford and don't have time to take a Biology class beforehand. :( I bought index cards and tons of notebooks. Anyone know of a website I can possibly study from using my index cards?

I understand, the cost of college causes many of us to make choices that are going to make things more difficult. A&P can be successfully completed without a previous bio, HOWEVER, it is easier with it. When that isn't possible, just know you can do this! It will take hard work either way you go. A great place to get valuable help is https://www.khanacademy.org/ this is a great site! I highly recommend it to anyone!

Best of luck to you! We all need it!

Khan is a rock star ... No doubt!

I took A&P 1 my first semester of college (Spring 2013) without any prior knowledge of college level sciences. The most I had under my belt was high school level science.

But at the same time as A&P 1, I was taking Gen Chem I. What I learned in Chemistry did not help in in A&P in any way whatsoever.

I took A&P 2 in a summer session (5 wks), and also did not have any problems without Biology.

I received an A in both. It all comes down to how much you want to work.. and, arguably, the quality of your professor.

The only science classes i have is college level chemistry (passed with a b) and before that or even now i dont have any science background, i never attended high school, and am gonna start a 8week a&p 1 followed by another 8week a&p 2 with micro in the whole semester this fall so he's just being rude!!!! Just give it your best and be on your toes on each lecture and assignments, i wish you the best of luck!!!!!!!! You can do it, we all can.....
