An open apology

It seems as though I may have ruffled a few feathers here with some posts I made to a particular poster.

Even though I apologized in advance to the poster in case I was commiting a faux paus, it seems as though that was not enough.

So, I will now apologize once again to sweet nurse and any one else who feels I was out of line in my replies to sweet nurse.

Bob, we seem to have certain times on this stie (usually the end of the semesters) when students come on board and ask for help with their nursing assignments. I got seriously flamed myself by others last semester when I told one student to do their own homework. I did a search and read your posts and agree with your assessment; others don't feel that way. I think you were very polite in giving your advice; and if sweet nurse isn't a student, she definitely came across sounding like one in spite of the language problem.

It is possible that sweet nurse's culture is different than ours, though, and that may be part of the problem in communications here. Either way, I thought you were quite polite in your response.

I agree with Nurse4kids and Jenny.

I'm sorry but I feel that you are not the one who should have to apologize. I agree with your first instincts as well. Same occurrred to me right away.

If I posted a question,which I do at times (I STILL only know ALMOST everything, but NOT!!!), and you thought I was a student based on your response, I would politely say "I am not a student, could you please answer my question...." I just feel that based on the 2 posts, you were in the right. I don't want students to feel like we are not willing to help them, I just feel that if they post a question then they should ALSO post their answers to it--then ask if we think they are on the right track etc...I love teaching too, but I did do my own homework!

I have a hard time understanding why it irritates some when students (or suspected students) post questions. If I don't feel like reading or responding to a student's (or anyone's) question, I merely ignore it. ?!?!

The answer is simple. I don't want to have to work beside a nurse who cheated his/her way through nursing school by posing school assignments as questions on a bb. Much knowledge is obtained while researching, not just the answer to the question. If the answer to the question was the only necessity, the instructor would just give the student the answer in the beginning. I don't want to be responsible for charging over a cheater, work beside a cheater or be responsible for an error caused by cheating. I think most everyone here feels the same.

I just truly want to complement you for the caring and consideration to think about apologizing as you feel that maybe/possibly your comment was out of line.........BUT IT WAS NOT!!!!!!!!!

We are all free here to post what we want and as we want. I know I have never ruffled any feathers here on this great bb.........:p

anyway.........what I am trying to say here.....i think it is way cooooooool.....that you are so kind to give an apology even when it is not yours to give.........

students coming onto this bb.......we nurses can be a bit rough around the edges sometimes......

nurses.......we all have different nursing education/experiences as well as different life experiences.........so just remember that WE ARE A GOOD CARING PROFESSION AND IT SHOULD START WITH EACH OTHER.........

KRVRN, another reason that students shouldn't ask us to do their homework for them is that they need to learn and develop the critical thinking skills and information processing that they will need to care for their patients safely once they graduate. I want them to learn to think things through so they can understand such things as how unstable hemodynamics within the 1st 3 hrs. immediately post op after CABG may cause asystole or profound shock. I don't know everything; and they won't either; but they need to learn to think.

...that bob's referring to, but i have to point-out that asking a question on these bbs could be considered doing research. i promise that i will do some research of my own & find the thread that's pertaining to this issue once i've finished with this post. one might not be satisfied with other traditional methods of research. quite frankly, what's the difference between arriving at an answer using text or workbooks, films/videos, internet sites (this & other official &/or credible nursing sites) & online articles(nursing or otherwise). no one, i believe, would ask anyone else here to write or do their homework for them...jmho :chair:

...in my research, i've had to read bob's profile & found the thread in question. after reading it, i noticed that sweet nurse only has 24 posts & to be fair, i checked-out her profile as well. :specs:

i don't believe that bob was being rude in his statement at all...in fact...i checked-out sweet nurse's profile & read all 24 postings... i've read quite a lot of clinical "school-type" questions being asked all over the specialties (peds, critical care, geriatric, etc) & feel that's were bob may have gotten the impression of her being a student. he did, in fact, offered an apology at the beginning & at the end of his posts...there shouldn't be a separate thread of "public apology" required!!!:rolleyes:

sweet nurse, i believe is her name, returned a reply protesting that she's already a rn a year-out & thought that other people would be interested in her topic line of questions...not so sure that people would've had these same questions in mind, but since she had them, i don't see a problem with her asking. perhaps she's a tad bit touchy; there really wasn't a reason for such a strong response, but i'm not her & can't speak for her either...i can only empathize with her situation. she's relatively new here on the bbs & seek some information as others have...it just that she's done quite a bit of asking. :uhoh21:

if those folks whom are annoyed or suspicious of students "cheating" or "taking shortcuts" should just ignore their questions & those types of posts (the ones with clinical "school-type" questions that is) altogether....jmho. :chair:
