Hello All,
Has anyone heard or have any information about American University of Antigua School of Nursing(AUA)? If yes, please let me know your feedback.
Thanks.

I am also learning about this school and desperately looking to get my degree in nursing so I can get the RN license. I spoke to them on the phone and planning on visiting an info session next week. The program is very new and their first class just graduated in December. I have asked them to let me know what percentage of people passed the NCLEX. They also do not have a waiting list and since its a new school, they are also seeking eager students who want to get a degree. Aftter you are done with your degree, they give you an admission to their CUNY Lehman RN-BSN program but I am planning on just finishing my ASN with Antigua and then come back to the states, pass the NCLEX, work and study party time to finish my BSN. Also I am going to speak to some more senior level people in this school plus a student that is studying their currently to understand how good their program is...If this schools seems good and if it works out, I would start in September and be done by next August since I have already finished the first year courses. Let me know what you have heard about the program so far..
Be sure to have dialogue with a NURSING STUDENT and NOT a medical student.
God's Love you are so right about that!!! I have emailed some of the students that I found on Facebook but none of them have emailed me back as yet The admissions seem to be some what clueless about the program...they keep saying, oh just put in the application and we will get back to you. I had a million questions when I went to seminar yesterday and the admission person was like, oh I need to close up, so just email me. Then this morning I had a conversation with them again and the person was saying, how I just need to apply and I shouldnt put the cart before the horse and I told the person, look, I am spending 40k here and of course I am going to have a ton of questions. And I dont have a job right now, so I want to be sure this program is legit and it prepares you well for the NCLEX. Have you had a chance to speak to them as yet? I am going to go visit the IUOU (the school on St.Kitts) office on Friday and I have also left a voice mail for Remington College in Florida. How is your search going and where are you applying for school?
Hi Purdue 725,
My suggestion to you is to try another school if AUA failed to answer your questions. It makes no sense for you to spend so much money and cannot get answers to your questions. May I suggest SGU if you are looking for somewhere in the carribean to study.:)

Dear God's Love - Thank you for the suggestions...I checked out IUON and it seems like a good program but you have to be in school for 4 semesters to get your BSN. You basically do 1 year in the carribean and 1 year in one of the schools in the US and then you can get your BSN and sit for the NCLEX. This program is for people who already have a 4 year degree. The AUA program seems good because for me, I would only need to do 1 year of clinical since I have 90% of my pre-reqs completed, I get my ASN, come back to the states, sit for NCLEX, practice (make money) and study part time to finish my BSN (usually hospitals reimburse you)...this way I do not have to take out a ton of loans.
BTW I did call SGU and when the admissions picked up, they said that they dont know much about the nursing program and I would have to contact their office in Grenada. Do you know anything about their program? What programs are you looking at?

Hello,
I know I am quite late with this post but hopefully someone and anyone will view this. I am currently attending the nursing program at AUA in Antigua. Bottom line, don't do it. If you find yourself making inquiries and they dance around the topic and do not give you a straight forward answer it is for a reason. Yes, the first graduating class was dec of 2009 but as of now no one has sat to take the NCLEX exam. They will mislead you and tell you that you have the requirements but when you arrive out here they will make their own decisions about whether you meet requirements or not so you may find yourself doing courses that you do not need, which in turn will result in additional finances. They paint an image of the way things are but it is nothing like that out here. Please be aware that if you come out here you are on your own. You pay for rent, utilities, food, books, any and everything. The living facilities they tell students about are places the school has contracts with landlords. They are not school owned or dorms. Wow, so much more I can tell. Ultimately this program does not sufficiently prepare students to sit for the NCLEX exam. Feel free to reply to this or I guess I can receive a message on this site as well.
Have a blessed day

Hi Purdue725, I'm also a current nursing student at AUA and I would not recommend anyone to this program. Don't even consider AUA as a last resort. The admissions people will say what you want to hear and not tell you the truth.
The loan they offer is a personal loan and not a student loan that where payment can be deferred. You start paying the loan back immediately and its interest rate is on a sliding scale.
Just sharing my experience.

I wanted to know if AUA had a solid transition to CUNY Lehman and how are the facitilties on the campus? Futhermore, about the NCLEX do you think a Kaplan study session would help put you over the top to pass the exam?
I am also considering this school I would b coming from New York and have attended a CUNY school before so the transition might or hopefully would be smoother

look at what happened to students in california who attended a school in which they had to do clinicals in the philippines. seriously, if you have to leave the country in order to get a nursing education, shouldn't that be a red flag to alert you to run in the other direction? aren't there enough quality and honest nursing programs in the usa?
don't let desperation define your decisions! be warned.
Brandon let me tell u that school in not accredited I was in that seminar on Tuesday And I found out 1st nursing class graduated in decamber and they r yet to take their nclex reason being it's not accreditedi called NYC dept of education and this school is not listed no one wanted to tell me this but I had found out by current aua student.
