American Sentinel University FNP

Hi everyone! Quick post- just wanted to give back to the community...when I was looking into various FNP programs that both fit my budget and had a challenging curriculum, American Sentinel was one of the schools that I looked into. Unfortunately, although I could find decent information regarding their RN-BSN program, there wasn't much about their FNP program.

It took me months of speaking with them, going through the catalog and finally occurring to me to look at the profiles of NPs on LinkedIn that graduated from American Sentinel to make a final decision. So, even though I don't start my first class until February 17th, I thought I'd just throw this out there in case anyone has questions later on as I progress through the program?

Anyone can say what the APEA exam is like? I’m kinda worried because I have only read what I need to to complete the assignments. Pathophysiology appears to have no tests. How did you pass the APEA? Did you actually read all the chapters? Any tips for the APEA exam? Thanks in advance.

Hi, started Jan 2021 taking adv patho. What is everyone doing to prepare for the 3P apea test. Study the patho book, buy the Q Bank questions? Flash cards to purchase? Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks

I’ve asked a variety of ppl. Seems like everyone says to buy the Q Bank from APEA website.

Who is your professor for patho?  I have (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME).  Yes, I heard between the qbank and Leik.

Hi everyone! So I’ve been looking for schools to get my PMHNP and so far American Sentinel is on top of my list. My question though is that I’ve been told that I have to do and passed the 3Ps and the exam first so I can continue to the program, so does it mean that I am sure to be accepted as long as I passed those? I know it’s a stupid question it’s just that there’s another school that recommended me to take pre courses before the program but those does not guarantee my acceptance so I just wanna be sure that that’s not the case with ASU. Thanks! :)

Hello,

You first have to be admitted to the school.  Once you are you will need to take all 3 P classes and pass the APEA Exam.  You take the exam around 7 week of your 3rd 3p class.  If you pass you go straight in to your 1st NP class.  So the answer is yes, if you are admitted in to the school you are admitted to the NP Program as long you pass those already discussed.  Good luck!

Hi,

Christine and I met on this forum and are now in school together.  What she told you is correct.  Once you are accepted, you are admitted into the NP Program. You just have to pass a predictor exam to continue in the program. Neither of us have taken it yet but have started to study.  I am in the psych program. Come join us!

Thanks! I am excited and nervous at the same time. How is the school so far?  I don’t know anyone personally who’s going to this school so I have no one to ask. I would really appreciate some feedback

So far so good. We were very nervous and excited at the same time.  The thing about this school and probably a lot of online masters programs is that you do most of your learning on your own so you have to be dedicated to setting time aside to learn on your own.  Have you applied yet? When are you thinking of starting?

I think focusing and learning on my own would be my biggest struggle. It would be nice to know someone that’s doing the same thing. I’ll probably start some time around fall. I’m a foreign grad so I still have to transfer my credentials

Is the program really hard?  I heard from friends that did different programs that NP is harder than RN program?  That is awesome you are right back to it.  Life is crazy right now, and on top of that you are working and go school.  I know you will get through it!! I am nervous and excited.  Was the exam hard after you finished the 3p's?  I really thank you for these post for us that are starting they are invaluable.

Sorry for the late reply. It's somewhat harder, but mainly alot more work & definitely more tedious. And as you proceed, some of the profs grade really strict. Yes the exam was difficult even after taking the 3P's. I bought all 4 sections of the APEA Qbank and did 100-200 questions a day- reading the rationales for each question really help you to understand more. The "Management" section is most like the exam (to me).

Thank you for responding.  I started in January so almost done with 1st class.  Going well so far.  Where are you at in the program?
