Watch video as well, since medical correspondent Dr. John LaPook highly stresses to listen to the nurses, for they are the forefront and know what is going on.

Amber Vinson, the second nurse in Dallas to contract the Ebola virus, has retained a high-profile attorney, her family said in a statement. In the statement, obtained by CBS affiliate WOIO in Cleveland, the family said they "are troubled by some of the negative public comments and media coverage that mischaracterize Amber and her actions."

"Suggestions that she ignored any of the physician and government-provided protocols recommended to her are patently untrue and hurtful. In the interest of Amber and our family, we have retained esteemed attorney Billy Martin to provide us with legal counsel during this unfortunate and troubling time," the family said in the statement. Martin's past clients include Michael Vick and disgraced former Idaho Senator Larry Craig.

Nurses on the front line in the fight against Ebola

Vinson was among the team of medical professionals who treated the first person to die of Ebola on U.S. soil, Thomas Eric Duncan. Between Sept. 30-Oct. 2 and Oct. 5-Oct. 8, Vinson actively engaged in caring for Duncan, records show. She inserted catheters, drew blood, and dealt with Duncan's body fluids while wearing protective gear. On Oct. 10, two days after Duncan died, the 29-year-old Vinson flew into Cleveland from Dallas. She visited a bridal salon in Akron the following day, and that same night fellow nurse Nina Pham tested positive for the disease.

Wow, that was an interesting read!! Glad to know the law seems to be on these nurses' side. Thanks for that article. I have seen the commercials for this firm.

I honestly think the cdc with their recommendations to use droplet precautions are at fault. Hospital - and most others in the country had stocked paper gowns masks and face shields for an ebola response. This could have happened anywhere. Just so happened to be in Dallas. How they couldn't have planned better I don't know...but really? Droplet?

Her attorney can report the unsafe working conditions to OSHA on her behalf. At a minimum, Texas Health should pay her hospital bill and pay for lost wages as well.

No doubt! At the very least!

I commend you NanikRN for filtering through some of these comments to stand up for Texas Presby.I hate the media these days. No one makes mistakes anymore and everyone jumps on the judgemental bandwagon. I can see that this has been a learning experience. It's not like Ebola has presented itself here before. Sure there were some things done wrong and missed and maybe it caused Mr Duncan to be a casualty from errors, but maybe not. No one knows what the outcome would have been if done differently, it could have been the same. So much does the media get inaccurate. The CDC, also taking alot of heat, has admitted publicly to mistakes. I realize this situation is urgent but it is not going to be a perfect scenario. I applaud the hospitals that took in Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol. There situation turned out much more positive. Maybe nurse Vinson shouldn't have left Texas, maybe this, maybe that. I feel for the staff of Texas Presby now that they have such a dark cloud over their head. If we can realize that Amber and Nina were involved in the care of Mr Duncan at his most contagious, his own fiance and some family did not even contract it.That doesn't mean we should take lightly the presence of Ebola, but it does give me some peace of mind. I feel Texas Presby is probably by now an expert on Ebola and won't make the same mistakes. I wish all the best to everyone in Texas and pray that this can be overcome.

It kind of makes me wonder how close the fiancee and other family members got to Mr. Duncan. Were they taking care of him? Or was he left by himself to languish in a bedroom until he got himself back to the hospital?

I applaud the hospitals that took in Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol. There situation turned out much more positive.

Dr. Brantley and Nancy Writebol were both treated at Emory Univ Hospital in Atlanta; one of the 4 facilities that have seasoned specialists/staff and biocontainment units. The key is to get treatment early. Apparently, there are other hospitals also prepared as with this new case at New York Bellevue hospital this evening.
