if it will make you feel any better,I'm54 and I just passed the 2nd Qtr and having a great time, I'm the oldest in my class, the students in my class range from the 20's to the 50's, and all of them are great, so if I were you, I wouldn't worry about the age thing

I'm 52 and just got my acceptance letter today for the fall pre-req program at the local tech school for the LPN program!!!! I'm so happy to know that you are making it fine at our age!

I've been working as an MA for 3 yrs and I do everything the LPN does, plus some, so don't think I'll have any worries about the clinicals. But, it's been 34 yrs since I've been in a class situation and it's somewhat scaryl!

Congratulations!! and you are going to do so well!! :) I am 47 and hoping to post soon that I rec'd my acceptance letter also for our FALL LPN Program! :) I truly feel that we limit ourselves if we embrace that idea that "I'm to old"..I know in most of my classroom settings we have had such a variety in age ranges...we had one lady who is 60 in my micro class going for her RN and doing great ..I just love her outlook on life. you as old as you feel....why do women punish themselves with worrying about their age....if you mentally and physically fit...it doesn't matter how old you are....you can achieve anything.....if you are sick...it doesn't matter how old or young you are....it won't work.....

I deliberately planned to receive my NCLEX results on my 41st birthday. My gift to myself. Our LPN class ranged in age from 19-52. The year before my friend graduated and she is 60. Go do it!!!!! I love it...(though maybe you can't tell that from my other posts...giggle)

Good Luck!!

Ok, you just insulted me (50) & three of my classmates, one of whom is 58 years old!

Naaaaaahhhhhhhh, you can do it. It is harder if you still have kids at home & an unhelpful husband according to our 33-42 year old classmembers.

If you can get your hands on (try internet site too)the 07/25/05 edition of the Sarasota Herald Tribune column by Rich Brooks (ALS survivor who visited our LPN class) you will be interested to know we had an extremely internationally diverse class makeup including China, Peru, Slovakia, and the Ukraine. Honestly, the ages were just as variable, seemed 1/3rd 19-26, 1/3rd 30-42, 1/3rd 48-58.

GO FOR IT!

You're not too old? Take me for example. I am a 48 year old who has changed careers midlife from law to nursing. Nursing is what I always wanted to do. I am the oldest student in my class of 11 LVN students in California. But I am making it. I have 4 1/2 months to graduation (Nov. 18, 2005) and I can't wait. My memory is not what it once was and I study 24/7 but I am doing it and so can you. I am also taking pre-requisites to go for my RN. I have two daughters one 20 who is going into the RN program in August and one daughter 11 years old. If I can encourage you in any way, I say do it!!!! You have 8 more years on me! You can do it.

You are not too old! No one is ever too old to go back to school, we learn everyday of our lives. You are only as old as you feel and treat yourself. I would not think about it twice, go for it. The nursing profession needs you :)

I was 49 when I graduated and im sorry I waited so long... I just love what Im doing I figure I got at least another 15 good years left in me... so do it!!! The program is not easy I know two Rn's that didnt finish the lpn program because it was very intense.. alot is packed into the 10 or 13 months.... Good Luck !

No, you are definately not too old. I was 37 when I started classes. That

was nearly 14 years ago. Our class had a mixture of ages from 18 to 55.

My daughter is now enrolled in nursing school and finds the age range to

be the same. So you go girl and get out there and enroll! Consider taking

your prereqs first (non-clinical classes). Makes it easier when you get into

clinicals. I acutally think us older students may have an advantage with

life experience. It's amazing how much having children helps in OB and Peds

classes!! :) Best Wishes!

you are definately not to old... go for it......

just want to say....go for it, your age is perfect, and you will find plenty of people your age in class.

Thanks for the encouragement, I am 48 and an LVN student struggling every day but 4 1/2 months to graduation, yeah. I am nervous, scared and anxious every day, but just keep plugging along. Have alot of test anxiety. Wow, thanks for sharing about the RNs who couldn't do the LVN program. It is very compacted and fast paced. Maybe I can do anything after getting through this. My program is 13 months, started last Oct. Just have trouble with the critcal thinking questions on my tests where there are two or three right answers. Any advice you can give on that? Thanks for the encouragement and your energy is catchy. Older Nursing Student in California (Susan)

Critical thinking I wish I had a nickel for every time my instructor said those words... lol Well start critcally thiking go out and buy the nclex pn book alot of your test questions come from that book.... and this way when it comes time for taking the boards you will know all the right answers to the question... good luck if you need any help with anything email me at [email protected] and we can figure it out.. Good Luck and be strong they try to break you... as for test anxiety tell me about it went to my dr and he put me on paxil cr the best thing i ever did was cool as a cucumber after that ... i used to break out into a sweat b4 even putting on the sterile gloves... i still continue to take the paxil one year later and my co workers see the difference between me and them because they are basket cases and i focus... dont wait to long see ur doctor and he will tell u that you are experiencing situational anxiety...get the help u will be glad you did.. and your instuructors will see the diffeence in your performance...Good luck cant wait to hear from you again.
