Hello!
I am finishing up my application for Frontier's next class for nurse midwifery. Frontier is very competitive, so I'm nervous. I also plan to apply to Bethel's midwifery program.
-My undergraduate GPA for my BSN is 3.5. My graduate GPA is 3.8. I tried to do better in my BSN program, but as a parent that went through a divorce during the program while working part-time, I could only do so much! I was pretty young, too.
-L&D nurse for 3.5 years
-OB/GYN clinic nurse. There are MD's, DO's, and CNM's in the office
-I have extra responsibilities at my current job, and I plan to become a lactation champion. Hopefully I will get my CLC this next year.
-I don't currently volunteer, unfortunately.
What else can I do to become a good applicant if I don't get in first round? I appreciate all the help! I really want to get accepted.
Happy Holidays!

Hi! I am so happy to find your post. I have applied to Bethel University's midwifery program for the Fall 2021 and am excited to find someone in the process right now! I don't have any nursing experience because I don't graduate until May 2021 with my BSN, but am still hoping there is a chance I can get into their program. We will see! I have heard of Frontier's program but I believe I need experience and I'm not sure that they find clinical preceptors? Does that sound right? Are there any other programs you've applied to?

Oh we are applying to the same class! Best of luck! And congrats on graduating this year! I think it’s great that you know what you want to do.
Frontier does not find clinical preceptors for you like Bethel does, but they have mentors who can help you find someone in your area. They have preceptors all over the country and I know that they give them an honorarium, so that helps. I think preceptors deserve that anyway. Teaching is hard work!
I am only applying to Bethel and Frontier. Super nervous! Thank you for the reply.
Great! Thank you for the information! And best of luck to you as well through the application process!

Hello! I'm softly considering applying to Bethel for their nurse midwife program but fear it would be automatic denial because I don't graduate until April 4th 2021. I do however have a few q's. Who did you use for your letters of Recommendations if your not a registered nurse yet? Also how were you able to submit your application w/o submitting your RN licensure or proof of graduation? Lastly, do you know when their application deadline is? Sorry for the questions. Thank you in advance!
Hi @Elinda21! So nice to meet you! I have absolutely LOVED the application process with Bethel thus far! I am also in a BSN program until April and do not graduate until May. Bethel told me that they accept applicants conditionally and then when you pass the NCLEX you would be officially accepted. Also, as far as submitting the nursing license, they considered my application complete without submitting that. They would have us submit that once we pass the NCLEX. For my letters of recommendation, I used professors as well as clinical instructors. Their deadline is February 28th I believe, but the application itself is pretty straightforward and I don't think there was a charge to apply which is really nice! I also don't know how competitive I am because I haven't graduated yet, but I have never gotten the impression that they will automatically deny my application because of it. I do know that they have an information session coming up on January 14th and they would answer all your questions! Hope this is helpful and keep in touch if you decide to go through the application process! It would be nice to have a midwifery buddy!!

Hey!
I'd love to join the conversation - I'm applying to Frontier only for Fall 2021 start. I'm polishing up my resume and essays right now.
A local midwife just told me she's teaching for the Bethel program - maybe I should look into that one also. I have been interested in Frontier for 10+ years though and want an out-of-hospital perspective. What attracted you to Bethel vs Frontier?
Excited for you!!
Hey! I am interested in Bethel because they told me that they locate our preceptors for us and I don't believe Frontier does! Also, I have loved the application process with them and if it says anything about the school I'm going to be very happy if I get accepted there! Another plus: it seems there are no Summer classes if I've read it right, which is nice too!! Keep me posted on what you decide!
