I posted previously that I got on my school's alternate list, and today I got the letter telling me how far down I am. I'm #15. This is a small area, and they accepted 50 students. I about fell out of my chair! :chair:
Forgive me for reposting this situation....I was the one where they used my high school GPA instead of my high overal college GPA and that caused me to get an extremely low score for admission purposes into the RN program. The reason this happened was b/c I didn't finish my AAS degree last Fall, and I could have had my advisor told me my high school GPA would have been used.
I called the Dean...again (who had previously referred me to the program Director who said an exception could not be made), and where I told him where I was on the list, he again, said he disagreed with the decision of the nursing department.
After I grew some balls and asked him, "Who is the end-all chain of command in getting an exception?"
He got really quiet and said, "Put the entire situation in writing...I don't care how long it is...tell me everything that happened".
I really, REALLY don't want to get off on the wrong foot with the nursing department...but the potential for keeping my mouth shut is waiting an entire year and applying again, and I just don't want to do that if there is a 1% chance I can either move up on the alternate list or get accepted.
I made it very, very clear to the Dean that I am not seeking to get anyone in trouble...my advisor just made an honest mistake...but I also told him I shouldn't suffer for it.

Write the letter. The Dean is on your side. You said that the advisor made a mistake well if you document everything correctly and try not to put blame in the letter you should be fine. Also note that you talked to the Dean at the date when you talked to him and he requested a letter of explanation. It sounds sort of like an appeal in a way.
Hope everything goes well.

Dear, write the letter!! Just Make sure you're polite in your peresistence. The dean sounds like hes trying to help.
You have more to gain than to lose in this case.
Good luck!
I really appreciate it! I did send the letter. I did mention twice (and it is soooo hard to find a nice way to say, "hey, the advisor ****** up!").
I wrote, "It is not my intention to cause any negative feelings between myself and the Nursing Department. I am only seeking to remedy, what I believe is an honest error." blah blah blah.......and then I said again in closing, "The purpose of my letter is not to attack or place blame on anyone. I feel it was an honest mistake. I do not wish to offend anyone in any way"
I hope that sounds tactful enough.

Be glad you have a nice dean that is allowing you to write the letter... something may be done.. GOOD LUCK and keep your chin up!
After I take Antomy and Physiology and History I..I literally have NOTHING to take. I guess it will be working again. I'll take a medical terminology in the Fall just for me...I am very suprised it isn't required part of the program, just to help me personally, but other than that, all of my gen-eds for a BSN are fulfilled and all the pre-reqs and co-reqs that I can take for nursing.
There is a BSN program 2 hours from here that I could apply to for next summer...but I figured up gas and gas alone would take $325 a month, not to mention I would have to buy my meals during the day. My husband can't really move right now, and we have a free babysitter right now. If we move we'll have to pay someone which is more $$$$, especially with twins.
If I can work my way in for this Fall, after the two year program, my twins will be in kindergarden (the public school is very good), and that will be so much easier.
I also would hate to have my twins start school, finish kindergarden, and then have to move away from friends that they just made, if I can prevent it. I just grew up with alot of stablity and want that so much for my children.

I think you're doing the right thing. As long as you tackle the issue at hand w/ intergrity, you'll be fine. You're not pointing fingers and blaming anyone, you're just stating the facts.
I *know* I would do the same thing you are doing. I mean, you could have changed this whole situation had you been informed correctly in the beginning.
I really can't even fathom how they go through HS GPA. It's just insane. Especially how the majority of those applying for nursing programs are older students.
Good Luck and keep us posted. When do you expect to hear again?

This week. I can't imagine this dragging on and on. Either they are going to make the exception or they don't, but at least in my heart I will know I fought it as hard as I could.
However....get this.....
You know how when schools use a score system they take the top scores and work their way down? There was a girl that got a final score of 4 points higher than me..and she was #30 on the alternate list! How does that happen? She is a dear friend of mine...I mean, I'm trying to get in as well...but I am also all about fairness...she should have been higher than me on the list.
I am going to do some detective work....I am going to find out how many students they excepted...and the lowest score they took that actually got in. That way, if I find out that a student with a lower score got in, I'll know they skipped over me and didn't think I would realize it.
