Anyone applied to Alvin Community College Spring 2011? I haven't seen much information regarding the application process for Alvin Community College. Please share your experience if you have applied.

wake up! only kidding thanks for helping me out. Its good to hear from people that are planning on doing the same thing im doing.

one more question lol do you know if those classes are online or in class?

Well the campus is top notch! And Not to mention their success rate and they've been in business for a while so they know what they're doing.. I found the dates for class and registration in the course catalog PDF.. I'm a bit obssesed (in a good way lol) about getting into this program I think I look at the intrustions PDF like twice a day! Lol! It's bookmarked on my iPhone too! Sad.. Lol

Lol I'm up! I know one for certain is online.. And the other stated TBA..That's if I remember it right.. Ah geez sleep is getting me.. Lol.. So when I go to the college I'll find out.. I have to take them my transcripts anyways so I'll ask then.. You applying anywhere else????

im taking my transcripts on feb 3 last year i remember a whole bunch of people turning all their stuff in that same day as the orientation and I was thinking to myself "overachievers"! Now im doing the same hhaha. No im just applying to acc. i told myself if i dont get in ill just continue taking my pre reqs i need for my bsn.

Me too! If I don't get in for some weird reason I'll continue with bsn reqs... But I hope I get in since all my academic classes and pre reqs are completed.. Im registering to take those to classes this summer whether I get in or not though.. But since they take a good amount of student and I have A's in my a&p's and working to hopefully get an a in micro I hope that'll do it! Lol! But I do have a B in English... So AHH!!! Idk I get worried and all OCD feeling thinking about the program!! Lol

Thats good im sure you'll get another A. And im sure we will both get in! One of the teacher there told me the majority of those who get in the program are the ones who have most if not all there pre reqs done. So like micro, anp 1 and 2, humanities, english, you the drill lol. So if we have those out of the way and you take dose calc and health assessment im sure you'll get in! When you apply make sure you let them know that your are taking those to make you look better. Damn why am i helping my competition!! Lol jk :)

Do you live in alvin and are you going to work during the program? Sorry if im asking too much questions just curious :D

Lol! I feel the same in a way.. You know helping the enemy!! But!?!? The enemy of my enemy is my friend right?! Lol!! But anyways.. That's what hoping for to.. Plus it makes sense to complete all the classes classes you can before the program starts since it will be intense.. Lessen the load as much as possible I say! Lol! No I live in Lake Jackson but idk if I'll work during the program.. Maybe just on the weekend.. We will see.. I know Alvin professors and staff are really helpful though and are really good about transferring credits from other schools.. My fiance and I are also dually enrolled at University of Phoenix and they are more than happy to transfer all the credits.. Unlike some other colleges that won't transfer.. He's in the process tech program here and there at ACC and so far our experiences with acc and U of Px have been fantastic!

Hey! Dont forget to post all sorts of good info about tomorrows applicant meeting!! Does alvin need letters of recommendations you think???

Hi again!! I post as much as I can that is if i even go because of this weather. I so don't want to get stuck in traffic when its snowing! And about the letters i don't think alvin needs them. It was either alvin or wharton that i asked if we can send in letters of recommendation and they said that nothing gets on their nerves more than people who send them in. I guess because just strictly use a point system to see who gets in. So I wouldn't send them because you might **** them off!!! lol If i do go tomorrow I am going to turn all my stuff in and get it over with. It's going to be very hard having to wait till May to know if I made it in or not!!!!!

Ahh! I know what you mean! (as far as waiting goes)..So did you end up going??? =)

Please dont keep me in suspense anymore!! LOL JK!!:lol2: Did ya end up going to the meeting??? LOL! Wow I sound desperate.. lol:confused:

Hey! The applicant meeting was good. The place was packed and people kept pouring in. I think think there is going to be tons of applicants this year. The director Mrs. Durand I believe, said that they might only accept 60 students versus 70 student because of the two application period now. I think that she was sort of frustrated because she couldn't get her power-points to work so she hard to remember everything. Some of the things she kept on stressing were to get your first hep B shot done before March. 24, get all transcripts in (even if there are courses that don't have anything to do with nursing she they still want to see the transcript). I hope you have already taken the act test or sat because they need those scores in before by the deadline! Someone asked her what is a good act score and she said if you get the minimum of 38, 39, 40 then you probably will have a harder time getting in because those scores aren't really competitive.

She said that before all their graduated easily found jobs right after school but not only some are finding jobs. She told everyone to also work on getting your pre reqs done at the same time so that when we are done with the program we can apply to the rn-bsn program like at utmb. And thats exactly what Im going to do!!

Another thing she said that made me feel better was that the more courses you have done the better of a chance you have to get in so that good! She said classes are M-Thur and clinicals are usually held sometimes on Saturday and Thursday I believe. Each semester there will be a dosage calculations exam that everyone will have to take to ensure competency. So we need to make sure we do well in that class because if not it's just going to come back and kick us in the but every semester! lol

My only downfall and I am very nervous about is that I had to withdraw from anp 1 and micro and some other classes I was taking to take care of my mom (she's ill) and supposedly that look bad to the nursing department. Actually she said that the people who withdraw and take the class again and then withdraw and take again will get strikes against them. So I think thats my only downfall of me not getting in.

Oh yea they gives us a folder to put everything in transcripts, test scores, hep b, and we can turn it in at the end of the session. One last thing! whatever you do don't be late!! There we a lot of people that were late I could tell by the look on her face that she was annoyed (but she had a right to be) and they had to wait after class to talk to her.

I think that the meeting was kinda rushed because everyone was anxious to get home before the snow that never appeared. lol She said we will know if we get accepted by the end of this May. I am going to forget about it because if I keep thinking about it the days are going to go even slower and slower.

GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING and let me know how your meeting goes and your thoughts about it. :)

I know this is all over the place. I just wrote what I could remember of the meeting!
