  1. That's what I did cause the she issue of experience... but you will gain knowledge at the ltc as well, seeing as they're like the main population we treat inpatient..

    UTHSC Houston FNP Fall 2014

Awesome and your friends did full time as well? Omg I'm so glad I met you! Was worried for a moment!
  3. I worked as a CNA on a med surg unit all through nursing school and it helped tremendously to me! I basically got to see my textbook come alive and it all made sense to me why the docs and nurses do what they do and it helped me understand concepts better. Not to mention the nurses were like amazing tutors for me.

Cool! And congrats on your new career and accomplishment!!! I want to start full time in the summer... just had a baby in February but I do work prn... was wondering if you had any classmates with little ones who did full time study? Just don't want to overstress myself cause the profesors at the info session made it sound like part time was the only way to go...everyone that's an NP that I've talk to say just go full time that is doable..

YvHeflin you're right, but was good info... they strongly encouraged the part time option yesterday... seems like a good idea seeing as anything below a B is a failure anD after one failure your dismissed! But not thinking negatively for myself or anyone! Clinicals are at least 2 days a week and preceptorship at least 3 days a week.. and those who applied late will be considered for the following application period it seems... but good idea to follow up... my status went back to complete as well after payment.. eeeh I'm excited and nervous to start!!

I just saw I was accepted today too!! Yay! I went there for my RN to BSN and if the curriculum and profesors are anything like that program it's worth it IMO!

How are you liking it so far?? Any words of wisdom or advice??
  11. Never mind I see now.. It states in 2015 the change needs to start, and be in full effect by 2025.. Hmm... Interesting!!!!
  12. Yay!!!! Its the DNP status nationwide??? I was looking in aana.com and didn't see anything about that? Can you point me to an article or something that says exactly who this applies too?? oh I'm soooo excited!!!
  13. I def know though as soon as I hit my 1 yr mark in ICU I will start applying! The worst they can say is to reapply next year! What schools you looking to apply SewRN? I'm in Houston, TX so I only have 2 options! Lol
  14. I do feel like I'm confident enough but let's just say my ICU mentors really are pushing me to do the floor first... I really dont want to but they promise me it will make a world of a difference in time management and skill set.. So we will see! The university I'm looking at has a dnp program after the msn program but I sure would be happy to skip msn and go straight to dnp like some schools are already doing it!
  15. No... Actually I graduate Nursing school with my ADN this upcoming May 2013!! But I already know this is where my heart is set on!! Been working as a CNA on the med-surg floor at the local hospital close to my school.. Actually we do clinicals there, and I have become friendly with ICU since I deal with them quite a bit because of work! I will get even more dealings this fall with my OR and day surgery rotations so I'm super excited! My plan is 6 months of med-surg immediately after graduation, then hit ICU for the year all while completing my BSN and hopefully go straight to CRNA since the school I will attend one of the 2 that offers the MSN program in my area..... At least that's my plan!! Lol!

Anyone applying to Baylor and/or UT at Houston?

Just wondering how many years of ICU did you guys do before feeling comfortable applying??
