Alvin Community College ADN Fall 2011

Published

Hi there, any of you applying to the fall 2011 program?

Ts highlgy likely that I am going to give up my spot so that I can go straight for bsn. This is one of the toughest decesion I will have to make. Any feedback would be nice. Good luck everyone.

Marco polo!!!

Congrats on being accepted. I wouldn't take a chance in giving up the opportunity to become an RN!! Once you are an RN it doesn't matter if it's ADN or BSN- it's RN... and you can get a job just like anyone else. It's highly recommended to get a BSN to make yourself more competitve in the long run. After you get your ADN you can get a BSN almost anywhere while you are working as an RN!! :yeah:What if you don't get another chance to get into nursing school again? Take the opportunity you've been given!!!! (in my opinion of course ;))

Best of luck to you,

Katejane

thank you KateJane for the advice. I truly do not want to give up my spot and yes there is always that what if aspect. So I think I am going to go ahead and accept it. Good luck with everything!

i got into the ADN program for fall of 2011 as well!! :D

Im so happy for those who were accepted:D...I was wondering for those of you who were accepted if you did your pre reqs at ACC and what were your stats? I had a 3.73 gpa for pre req, and a overall 3.33 GPA for all classes Ive taken.. my sat score wasnt so hot but was above the national avg, but I have not taken any classes at ACC...Im still sad about the waitlisting, but everything happens for a reason right??

Im glad your accepting the offer.. I think thats a good choice too... Good luck!!

Where are all the results posted about how many applied and were accepted?

I was accepted as well!! I am so grateful! For those of you who are wait-listed or were not accepted... Don't give up!!!! Don't get discouraged!!!! You can still become an RN!! I have felt the feelings of rejection and being wait-listed too. Some times you just have to keep on trying until you get it :) If there is anything I can help you with let me know!!! :redpinkhe

How many times did you try?? I feel discouraged, this upcoming week I find out about Brazosport.. I am so bummed by this.. but still am hopeful!

Hey Pink!!

So back in 2008 I applied to a different nursing school and made the first cut but didn't make it past the interview. It was not the right time in my life to become a nurse- that's for sure. So I did what I felt I needed to do- go on an 18 month volunteer mission for my Church. Amazing and worth it.

I applied for Fall to 4 schools: Ut-Houston HC, UTMB, Lonestar, and Alvin. I got wait-listed for UT-houston, rejected from Lonestar, and still haven't heard anything from UTMB...

Everything happens when and where it's supposed to if we put our trust in God. There's a quote that I like that inspires me when I really want to achieve a goal or desire. I'm sure you've heard it before..."Pray as if everything depends on the Lord, and then act as if everything depends on you" This is so true.

Don't get discouraged! If you want to be an RN there is a way! Whether it takes years of applying or taking alternative routes via LVN school and then RN transition. You can do it! Keep working on all your pre-req's and do well in them. This will help you become a more competitive applicant.

Sincerely,

Katejane :nurse:

No one else got accepted? Or are they not on this blog site? I want to hear why they are going for adn vs. bsn. Are you going to be guaranteed a job afterwards.

Hi Marco,

Are you going to want to work in Houston? Cuz if so them you need a BSN to work in the med center from what I hear?

Yes i do want to work in the med center!! So many thoughts are going through my head right now!

Well my plan is this: get my adn, work at my current job or a rural hospital the year it takes me to get my RN to BSN.. So by the time I get my BSN it's not Like I have to go to a new grad program, and I will be more of a competitive applicant cuz I'll have one yr exp and nurses I work with also tell me it's difficult to get a hospital job out there as a new grad so a yr exp should help, but I know a bsn is a must..

That sounds like a good plan! Your hospital hires adns? That's nice. If I do the and I may just have to move to a rural area and work while going to school for my bsn.
