Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone worked for an alternative school or school with trouble high schoolers? There is a position in my area and I am interested to see how anyone's experience may be in that arena. I am sure it comes with challenges...I have only worked with elementary school so I know this would be a big change. Thank you!

Expect the number of students to be lower but the number of issues to make up for that. While "alternative" is frequently because of behavioral issues that make a regular school placement impractical, often these are accompanied by actual medical conditions, everything from siezures to diabetes, that you'll have to deal with.
Still it can be rewarding. You'll get to know the students a bit better than those of us in the 2000+ face highschools.

As it says above, you get to know the students better because there are fewer of them and you see more of them. I just got tired with all the stuff that didn't really end up being what I thought was really essential nursing, searching students, helping with disciplinary matters. And of course a lot are on IEPs or 504s so there's a higher paper work load.
