:o Don't mean to bring anyone down but I'm having a really bad week. Needed an 80 on my final to graduate with my friends next month and I only got a 73. I was so close to graduating with my BSN. I have to wait until the end of August to retake the class. It was my final med-surg class. I know its not too bad of a wait. Just upset about not being able to graduate with people who have become like my family. Was also planning on graduating before my wedding in August. This sucks. Really wanted to prove people wrong about me. Even had a teacher some years ago tell me that maybe I wasn't good enough to be a nurse because I got a 79.43 in her class(an F in that school). I asked her if I had recieved .57 of a point more would I be good enough. Instead of dealing with her I transferred to a really good college, got good grades for the two years I was there and BAM!! I got shot down again. I almost made it this time. Okay. I'm done being a sour puss. Just needed to vent.

From reading your post, with all you've done, it seems like you've already proved those people wrong. Slipping up (and it wasn't that big of a slip, more like a tiny stumble) is normal. You can't be perfect when there is no perfect. Plus, proving people wrong shouldn't be the focus of anyone's education, career, or life. In my experience, trying to please or prove yourself to anybody but yourself, first and foremost, zaps the fun and meaning out of everything. This is your life, not theirs.

So you have to re-take one class, big whoop. Use the extra time until your class begins to figure out what exactly you need to work on and you won't have a problem. You'll end up graduating with an even greater knowledge than you would have if had you passed the class originally. (Which would make me even more confident in you as my nurse, if I was your patient. :wink2: )

And please, please, please enjoy the time leading up to your wedding! Don't let one little setback (if that is the way you choose to see it) ruin this time for you. I wish you good luck!

hey flopping again doesnt make you less of a person or that youre never gonna be a good nurse. above all, high grades will only go as far because in this profession it doesnt matter whether you got the highest grades, whats important is that you will be a good nurse to your patients. i mean my grades before were above average though not that high compared to the honor students but then i can brag that i was a very dutiful nurse to my patients. thats what is to be proud about.

and with not graduating with the people who were like family to you, all the more that this flopping should not bring you down right?

Hey Zooz, thanks for your kind words. I am very greatful for all the support I have received thus far. I'm actually going to take advantage of my new found free time and finish my wedding registry this weekend.

I would highly suggest going to professor immediately to see if there is anything that he or she can do.

Professors usually have a sympathetic ear when it comes to just a few points separating a degree and retaking a class, especially when it's only a few points.

You already have "no"...it doesn't hurt to ask.

some professors do allow another attempt for a final exam

a 73 to an 80 isnt just a "few points"

Take this extra time to study what you missed and enjoy your summer off as well

*i almost made it this time.

the only person you are bringing down here is yourself....i bet you're disappointed....you had things very well planned out and they didn't go accordingly -- that's called "life". read some of the sentences i quoted above...the most important one is "i almost made it this time". bingo!! and the reason you almost made it instead of being a walmart greeter over the past few semesters is what? oh, you changed tacts from what wasn't working before to something that did work...either the new school, a change in your attitude, or something that clicked for you. good, now you're making progress.

take that 'something' and make it continue to work for you....sounds like you've got all kinds of great things lined up for your future with a wedding, a new career, etc. look forward -- don't look back. it certainly sounds like you've got the capability to do this nursing 'thang', so do it!!

as you go along in life and get older, you're going to find out often that you can't plan everything....real life has a funny way of getting in the way of that crap -- people get sick, they die, they disappoint, employers cut their workforce, a tornado comes through, etc.....so sometimes we just have to not question things, but go with them.

and ignore the naysayers in your life; only you know what's best for you!! hang in there and good luck!!

Hey wdwpixie, I know I don't really know u, but u sound like a really positive and beautiful person. Thank you for your kind words. As for me, I'm the type of person who only stays down for a day or two, and then I'm back at being the crazy fun Puerto Rican I am. As a matter of fact, I started working for my job full time until I start school in September, and making good money. My fiance and I decided to get a really nice house before our wedding. Life is funny and works in the most mysterious ways. I've learned this through much of my life. Well, anyway, enough about me. But again, thank you.

EXACTLY!! Every so often something happens and you might like or dislike it, but sometimes you can look back and go "Wow!", that really worked out for the best.

I hope you find that this ends up being so for you. And when you go back, give it 150%. And be proud when you graduate!! And be a nice nurse to your students!! lol

Don't Give Up!!
