since there has been a few people in need of NET help, i will break it down to you guys!
___________
people... you are native americans, it makes it easy for you to do way better that i did... once again HERE IT GOES HOW TO REALLY DO GREAT ON YOUR NET TEST.
EASY NET in 6 STEPS
1 you have to have some time to study, allow your self about 2 hours a day (i was able to learn all the subjects and study on my own and at work!!!) you have to sacrifice whatever it is but make it 2-3 holy hours per day no matter what! (for about 10 days)
2 go to www.testprepreview.com and download and print their NET nurse entrance test, youll find it on the left hand side. then once you have it, you print it about 10 copies and staple 10 sets, they will be your everyday practice sets. now that you have done that, you will go to http://www.midland.edu/~hsd/pdf/8-NET_Test.pdf and do the exact same thing, make 10 copies and staple the sets, this is another GREAT EXCELENT exam and both of them are lets say 99% of what you need to know to score at least a 85 on your net and I GUARANTEE IT!.
3your studying schedule, first of all you are going to take the first test either one you choose, and you will solve it, take your time, try to understand, come online and post (lets ask for a sticky on this only for the net thread Huh? please all nurses!!!) well you will answer all the questions you can, and do not check yet to verify your answers, once you finish all the questions you know, you will then verify those answers, then whatever you could not solve, just come here and post the number of the questions and whether it is from plato or test prep, that i will step by step answer it and assist you.
you will then get the next NET and solve it also...and again, once you have doubts post them here and i will help you.
After doing that for 5 days, you on the weekend will go to discovery.com or any other science website and you will read about 3-5 articles, just so you can update, improve, sharpen your infra-reading skills, do dot skip this step, do that on the weekend so you can take a break on your studies and prepare for the second week.
On your second week you will start timing your self, you will give your self 1 minute per question, so total it like 60 minutes for 60 math questions! and time your self on the english part also, wich actually is the most time consuming questions.
4 it is getting close for you to take the NET and you have about 3-4 days prior to it, so now you will do this technique that i call compilation, you will add all the math questions from both tests and you will solve them back to back, as many as you can, when you need a break take a quick one, but make it your goal to solve all of them!!! and by this time you should be getting at least 90% of them right!! once you are done with that, you will just answer 15 random questions on the english part.
On the day after you will invert, you will then solve all the english part, (again, as many as you can with no breaks, then once you need one do not hesitate but do not loose your "studystamina" wich i call concentration) done with that, you shall then answer 15 math question, try getting those ones that gives you a hard time and you often miss them, please try timing your self be generous, give your self 19 minutes for them.
Again repeat the step 4 on the next day.
5 It is now 2 days before the test, and at this day you will not study, you will not drill, you will only make sure, that you have no doubts and all your math and words are sharp, posting doubts, and making sure you are up to par!
On the day before your test you will do this, you will give yourself 1 hour on the clock to solve 30 math questions, and 30 english in the morning, and repeat that at night, just to wrap it all up.
6 it is NET DAY, today you will not freak out because you are prepared, you solved your problems, you found the meaning and main ideas of the paregraphs, and you are doing just awesome not it is time to show it to your self.
Taking the NET:
you might start with a essay sometimes that is not required, if not you will go to MATH, you are going to start solving your test, 100% concentration right here, if you stumble uppon a question that you might be having a tiny bit of trouble with it just skip it, dont guess, and go to the next one, so by the end of the test you saved your self plenty of time to solve those 5-6 questions that you were having trouble with, now just press the button on the computer (of course if it is computer based version) "uncheck questions only" and the system will only display the ones you left for last, doing so you will save time on the easy ones, and have actualy more then 1 minute per remaining questions.
Now when it comes to the english portion i recomend you glance-read the paragraf, take a peek at the question and then you can go back to the paragraph and choose the right answer, they are not long paragraphs, often 200 hundred words...
AND NOW YOU ARE DONE
great job!
just follow this and you will be great and at least score a minimum of a composite 85.... i got a 92!
and that will not guarantee your admission... but it will have a great weight and consideration
Please moderators, can you make this a sticky note?
Hi, FutureNurse23!
I did not have problems with the inference or outcome prediction. I understood all about a paragraph in theory. I used my knowledge on the test, but I did not have time to summarize all the paragraphs in the passage to extract the main idea of the passage, even though I tried to reason looking at the title of the passage and skimming the first paragraph and afterwards a whole text. There was not enough time.
However, I'm on the program now because I took NLN and did well. The accumulative score on NLN made a difference . I took NET 2x and did not pass a reading part. Good luck to all you guys!
are there any books to prepare for the test? the study guide just gives you practice questions. I have been away from these problems for quite a while now and I need some background:uhoh21:
you can purchase the NET study guide from Eriworld (I believe), they have website just google them. You can probably find the book in your college book store.
You can also purchase NET study guides from other publishers on amazon.com. Problem with this is that they have lots of sections that are not on the NET like sciences, word problems and such. But the benefit is to get more reading comprehension samples.
Lastly, if you look at the first page of this thread, there are links to free sample questions for the NET online.
Hope that helps.
Solvita well it is impressive that you passed the NLN instead since the NLN is mostly given to RN pre-nursing students as a entrance test. I also hear that the NLN is harder, due to the indepth math and science it has verses the NET. The NET has a easier level of math and critical thinking reading portion. Nevertheless, congrats to you and main ideas are just a answer that is supported by all details in a paragraph.
I have talked to different people who have taken the Net and all of them told me that computerized version of the Net is much easier than the pen and pencil version. On the computer the passeges are shorter and easier to understand. If you can pick between computerized and pen and pencil version definitely go for computerized version.
thank you so much for that info!! Last year when I took the NET we had to do a paper section. I ran out of time before I even got to the last section!
I'm hoping that this year since it's on a computer that i'll do better. I love the fact that I can get my results right away instead of waiting for two weeks like last time!
Silvio Congrats on your acceptance!! I am so jealous!! IN A GOOD WAY!!!
For those of you who have recently taken the NET on a computer, could you tell me if the reading passage is broken up into one or two paragraphs and then a question, or was it the entire passage and numerous questions afterwards?
Is it 33 questions in 30 minutes right?
Hello everyone...Im new to this site. I went for my NET test today and i failed it. I needed a 50% in math and i got a 47% In Reading i got caught up trying to go back and re-read everything and didnt keep track of time and ran out of time not able to answer all the questions so i ended up with a 40% when i needed 50% to get accepted into the school. I felt so defeated and unintelligent!!! I was told I can take the test again this coming Tuesday or Thursday. I an very nervous that i will not pass. Can anyone give me any advice about take the NET test for the second time around? Please any advice would be so much appreciated.

Hello, CSantos!
How you get ready for your nursing program? Iid you get your vaccines/? Do you have to buy a bunch of books? :)
The best advise for test takers--read what CSantos tels you to do. You have to get used to popular scientific literature. That is what you will get on reading part.
To RCastro: when I took second time test, the test WAS THE SAME including math and reading section. Now you have an advantage you know what will be on a test. Aknowledge mistakes made and go over your them.

everyone is having trouble with the reading portion so do not get distracted all. these are some of the notes i have taken from the eri study guide. the reading portion consist of the main idea, inference, theme, purpose, and predicting outcomes. so relax everyone!:nuke: once again these are some of my notes. hope this helps and lets wish everyone luck!
main idea- a answer that summarizes the details of a paragraph. the answer will support the details in the paragraph.
main idea- serves as a umbrella structure for many details of the paragraph.
two errors made in identifying the main idea is two narrow & too general.
choose broadest answer
inference- a answer expressed as a unwritten and unstated relationship among the details of a paragraph. "inference", is a conclusion supported by the details in a paragraph.
ex: a) three basic grasses feed most of the world in the 1800's.
b) northern europe sought corn as a food group.
c) the original american ate bread similar to the chinese.
d) indo-chinese ate bread from the same grasses as other people.
the answer is a supports the details and supports different countries and is broad.
theme- a symbolically stated topic of the story. a statement of a overall title of the paragraph.
purpose- answer that states why a paragraph was written.
the broadest point or purpose.
ex: a) proteins are the spare parts of the human body.
b) proteins is made of nitrogen and other minerals.
c) grasses supply important protein for the body.
d) nitrogen can be found by plants in the earth.
the answer is a the details in the answers show that protein is the focus of the paragraph. also the answers show how everything in the pragraph is conected to protein/the body.
predicting outcomes- a answer made from reasoning supported by the main idea and based on possible inferences from the details of the paragraph.
ex: a) all owls vary slightly from each other in color and size.
b) human prisoners rarely see the great horned and the barred owls.
c) screech owls can have a wingspan nearly as great as a man's height.
d) owls come in a variety of species and are found throughout the world.
the answer is d the details in the answer it supports that their is more than one type of owl. also it makes a inference on owls supporting that owls are found throughout the world.
predicting outcomes has two paragraphs compared. a inference question is a true statement based on one paragraph only.
predicting outcome questions : 1. which statement is true based on these two paragraphs? 2. based on these two paragraphs, which is a true conclusion? a conclusion supports a answer that must be broad.
truely it is tricks to the reading portion of the reading portion. what i have found out in my practices is that if you have a broad answer that supports your paragraph your answer can't be wrong! this is for all main idea's, theme, purpose and predicting outcomes. inferences questions are broad but reflect also to a reasoning expressed in a unwritten and unstated relationship among your details in the paragraph.
