Algebra and Microbiology during summer semester @ HCC

Hi, Please somebody help me! I have to take Algebra and Microbiology before I can apply for the nursing program. I am considering taking these two classes during summer semester at HCC ( Tampa). The semester is 10 weeks. Is it too much info for such short period of time? ???

IMO, it depends on how much time you have. I had to work FT while taking pre-reqs (just finished up and getting ready to enter nursing school in the fall). I did 5 hr chem course last summer. Was very intense to work 8 hours, commute 2-1/2 hours a day (my work is 1 hour away and class was at comm college's most remote location in another direction), attend class and lab from 6-9:30pm 4 nights a week and find time to do readings, assignments, and prepare for weekly tests. Oh and I'm a single mom with 2 teens at home. I worked my rear off for that A and my family sacrificed too. It helped that instructor didn't keep us the entire time every day.

Micro will be as demanding with lecture and lab, and Algebra will likely have lots of homework too. You might be able to do if you are a self-starter, an independent student, pick things up quickly, and can devote all the time you need to succeed. I suggest weighing out carefully your ability to make the grades you need for GPA since it is such a big consideration with your nursing school application.

Algebra and Micro are very demanding courses. Both require lots of study time. Do you work full time or part time? I took mat 120 Probaility and statistics, micro and public speaking one semester. I worked full time and was pregnant. I got b,s in all three classes. I think that if you keep your eye on the prize you will succeed. Right now I am taking intermediate algebra this spring, math 110/ colege algebra this summer before I can apply to the ADN program in September for the January program. GOOD LUCK! :twocents:

I am currently taking intermediate algebra(4-5 unit not sure)and micro(5 unit). It’s not too bad in the normal semester. I took pre algebra and Chem in the summer. The math was easy. Chem was a *****. How long are the classes? I took the 6 week ones but they offer some sciences as 8 week which would be a lot better.

Just reread your OP. 10 week class I wouldn’t hesitate if not working.
