Lots of discussing of this subject here in this thread https://allnurses.com/nursing-in-canada/jobs-calgary-ab-823487-page2.html
CARNA will give you a license.
Just don't expect to find a job anytime in the next 6 months to a year.
The provincial colleges have nothing to do with finding you work. They just take our money and provide our Liability Insurance.
Wetaskiwin is surrounded by four First Nations reserves. These are Ermineskin, Louis Bull, Montana and Samson. They have a reputation for being high-crime areas - guns, drugs, domestic violence and such. There are issues related to poverty as well. Wetaskiwin's hospital is a busy one.
Greyhound runs one bus a day from Edmonton to Wetaskiwin (leaves at 0045 and arrives at 0205) and vice versa (leaves 0445 and arrives 0605). Fares are around $18-25 one way. Red Arrow doesn't go to Wetaskiwin. Highway 2 isn't a friendly place when it snows... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CEsQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.edmontonjournal.com%2Fnews%2Fweather%2FRCMP%2Btrying%2Buntangle%2Bmess%2Bcreated%2BQEII%2Bcrashes%2Bsouth%2F8138000%2Fstory.html&ei=GuRQUan7JI3siwLewoCYBA&usg=AFQjCNE86-uLSxvFflOtE6vW4xmwHVoHMg&sig2=TQhOBqr8-Y8GlqObXc_EQg&bvm=bv.44342787,d.cGE
After nurses retired, our facility could not find anyone. Rural location, politics, chronic understaffing. More or less the same deal for many small towns, so they're always hiring.
The pluses? You learn more in a rural location (simply because you're it), and lots of work available. My loans are paid and I've saved enough for a down payment for a home in 3 years.
If you want full time work, rural will give you that, but beware. It's not for everyone. I don't regret it, but aside from a temp job, I probably won't work rural again.
BTW, I'm from Toronto and a few of my colleagues are from the Eastern Provinces. ON has been terrible for work since 2008, so I know exactly what you're experiencing. ON has always carried massive debt. Too many people, few jobs, especially in the GTA.
Maybe some of us should consider starting a business together. Working for someone else sucks.

Hello,
Have a question for anyone who may know... I live in winnipeg, been an RN for 2 1/2yrs and applied recently for my license in Alberta. I just found out there is a hiring freeze!
If anyone knows please feel free to share with me if I have a chance of getting my license approved? If so, will I be able to get a job? Specifically in calgary...
