i'm interested in joining the air force for nursing. i'm currently working in the ER at a level II trauma center, hoping to try and work in a similar environment eventually working my way into flight nursing. i have heard stories from fellow nurses who have bad experiences with physicians in the airforce as far as competency goes (no offense intended to any md's). In anycase, i'm not much for going out to sea as far as the navy goes. Wondering if anyone has any input as to their experience as a RN in the air force. how hard is it to get leave? Is it hard to transfer to different airforce bases? how different Is working the ER in the in the air force compared to civillian hospitals? Any help would be great!
thanks!!
I was going to enter the USAF after graduation from nursing in '95. My brother talked me out of it (Army nurse) and said to consider that I'd make more money in the civilian world and could pick where and what I would like to do. So I stayed civilian. Wish I had gone, but now it is too late - I've always wanted to be in the Air Force but I also had two children and was divorced - ex would have been listed had I been deployed and I didn't want to go there.... GO FOR IT, YOU'LL NEVER REGRET IT. ALSO, AF TAKES NURSES UP TO AGE 46.

My sincere apologies if my post #16 was in any form political. My only intent was to share a news story directly R/T AF nursing in Iraq, as well as include a story R/T ANC in Iraq. Plus, even though the OP initiated this Thread a few years ago I thought my links were relevant.

ArmyANC, just curious... are you on active duty right now in the Army Nurse Corps deployed to Iraq?
I had an AF Nurse Recruiter contact in Austin, TX, but don't know how much that would help you if your in the Sand Box now.
