Just wondering who all has/is submitting their application for the October due date for the AF for the up and coming boards?

Specializes in medical/renal.

I got it!! Email has been sent!

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Pediatrics.

My application packet was submitted the beginning of September. In order for you to make it for the October boards, everything must have been completed (including Chief Nurse Interview) and sent to TX before September 27th. In order for you to be included in the January boards, everything must be complete and submitted to TX by Nov-Dec some time (unsure of cut off date for Jan. boards). I had been working on everything for my Air Force packet since late 2008-early 2009. I have gone through 4 recruiters in order to finally get it all completed and submitted. It is a very long process. Good luck to you both!

I'm suppose to have my application sent in for the October Boards. MEPS and Chief Nurse interview completed since last week. I just hope and pray that I get in.. So after the Board meets in October, how long does it take before we find out whos selected.

My recruiter told me to expect to hear something in December but I am not holding my breath! He has told me "dates" before.

I also have my application in their. I had it all in as of the 25th. I completed MEPS in November, 2009 and my Chief Nurse interview in August. I was told I would/should find out by mid-November. I have a tentative leave-for-COT date of March 8, 2011.

Oh.. OK. I'm also hoping to get into March 2011 COT. I'm actually nervous because it's just around the corner. Well, I wish everyone luck on their Journey..:)

My recruiter sent out a list of dates for the upcoming selection boards to all of us in the midwest he is working with. According to him the board starts on Nov 2 and has an "estimated release date" of Nov 26. Apparently this board reviews all the "fully qualified" applications from all the nurse recruiters in the US which is why it takes a whole month! Also I would expect that they would have a large number of applicants as this is the first fully qualified selection board since last April/May of this year. I think in years past they had multiple boards a year and would have had at least two other boards by this time. To all of us waiting... stay motivated, stay qualified, and attempt to stay sane while waiting. I have not heard of anyone getting this far into the application process and not being selected.:yeah:

I just spoke with my recruiter last night. He had just returned from a conference in San Antonio where they discuss the openings and all the totals for the nurses they are hiring for the upcoming year.

He told me, verbatim, "I'm not going to lie, it's going to be tough." He said for ICU there are 8 positions nationally. He then listed off a bunch of other departments and specialties and told me that most of them weren't hiring ANY nurses. One I remember was OB/L&D, he said they aren't hiring any new grads.

He said there was a total of 18 nurses being hired country-wide. I'm not sure if that is qualified or total, though. He also said that if they see someone they want and they reached their limit, they will get approval to hire more.

I don't mean to scare anyone, I just figure it's better to be realistically prepared than overly and unrealistically optimistic.

I wish you luck, but not more than I'm wishing myself...

Thanks for sharing Danegerous. It helps to know what the odds are. It is hard to believe that with a war going on they are not needing more nurses. It may be that they just can't afford to pay more nurses! Best wishes to everyone that is waiting!

Thanks for sharing this info danegerous. I hope and pray I'm among the 18 nurses they pick cause I really need this right now. I feel like I'm putting all my eggs into one basket. When is boards meeting this month?
