Air Force Nursing 2013

Hi everyone,

I just recently started the process to apply to be an Air Force nurse. I'm trying to complete my packet for the January 2013 (Feb 19-Board, Mar 08-Decision). Anyone else currently starting or in the process? Any advice with gathering my information?

Any current Air Force Nurses that could give me insight about their experience, especially regarding their first assignment?

My husband is about to separate from the Army and we are used to that way of thinking and doing things (i.e. lots of misleading information, less family oriented, less options regarding career). My recruiter had mentioned that everyone goes into a general clinical nurse slot, but is given the opportunity to specialize into a department of their choice after one year. My initial response was "Yeah... riiighhhttt." I don't actually believe that I would be given such a choice so soon, but I'm not sure if that is only because of our experience with the Army. Can anyone enlighten me??

Thanks!!

I just heard back from my recruiter. The update I got was that all the clinical nurse applicants were sent back and they will be holding a board next month specifically for those. All I need to do is sign the new forms so it can be sent back. This makes me so sad/frustrated/stressed/depressed/anxious/defeated... etc. But I guess it is better than being a non-select. Good luck to all the specialties!! I'm rooting for you all

psycheab,

yeah, if I were you, I would contact another recruiter. This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you contacted the right recruiter? either way, someone should have gotten back with you. are you from cincinnati by chance?

I'm fairly sure -- I was on the Air Force website and selected Healthcare Recruiter and searched for the one that I thought might be the most accessible from my current location. He is in LA, so I'm thinking he just may have so many applicants/interested people that my one little email fell through the cracks. What I might do now will be to contact a recruiter where we had previously lived (there was one in the immediate area -- kicking myself for not pursuing this then.)

Nope, not from Cincinnati. I'm a Southern gal ;)

oh what a bummer  but you are right, it's not a non-select so that is great...another month does stink but it's just a couple of weeks away...my fingers are double crossed for all the clinical nurses applying...I am freaking out more now...nothing seems to go as planned for these boards and nothing is ever a safe bet. I'm just hoping for the best for now and praying something positive happens. ughhh we need some good news!

Hi JillyRN,

I have a packet in for clinical nurse currently. My recruiter told me that they will know the boards selections on March 8th. When your recruiter told you that "all the clinical nurse applicants were sent back" is he speaking of all of his applicants, or every clinical nurse applicant across the U.S.? I live in Denver, Colorado and have not heard any news yet. Thanks

Hi everyone- I'm also anxiously waiting for March 8th, I applied for the AF Nurse Corps Critical Care specialty. Has anyone had their personal references contacted? None of mine have and it is making me even more nervous! Thanks

I too am applying for a crit care spot, and no one has contacted my references either. I wasn't under the impression they would though....good luck to you!!!

I am also waiting for the results. I have been following this link for sometime now. I am hoping for good news. 3 days to go!

JillyRN,

Are you saying anyone applying for a med/surg position has to wait another month for the board to meet again? :(

phelpscm,

None of my references have been contacted either. I was also under the impression that they do not normally contact references unless there is a question or discrepancy. The CN interview and NP phone interview hold the greatest weight, along with academic and clinical history. When I received my commission with the Army they did not contact my references either, so it is likely not an issue to be concerned about. Once again, good luck to you and everyone else who is anxiously awaiting the results.

The email from my recruiter did say all the clinical nurse packets were sent back and will be in a separate board held next month. I too was under the impression we would be given the results this Friday, until I received his email yesterday. I'll be seeing him on Thursday so hopefully he can answer a few questions then.

Have any of the other clinical nurse applicants heard anything about this? My biggest fear is that mine was sent back because of an error or something and he doesn't want to admit it. Two more months of waiting may drive me crazy (or crazier).

jillyRN,

are you freaking serious? I had to go throught this-this past november in regards to my packet being sent back with other packets, now my packet is being sent back again? my recruiter has not contacted me about my packet being sent back again. if this is true for my packet then that really bites the dust again!!!! if the boards meet in a month then it will be two months before we find out cause it takes about a month after they meet to find out. I am going to text or call my recruiter right now. goog luck to all the specialties waiting results.

hey everyone,

I tried to contact my recruiter and as soon as I find out something then I will let everyone know what I hear. hopefully it is not the same but if he doesnt say the same thing then I will be really confused. My excitement just went from high to low. one thing I was just thinking about was back in november when my packet was sent out, my packet got returned from texas before the board even met so this is just weird to me but who knows. nothing surprises me anymore.
