Air Force Nursing 2013

Hi everyone,

I just recently started the process to apply to be an Air Force nurse. I'm trying to complete my packet for the January 2013 (Feb 19-Board, Mar 08-Decision). Anyone else currently starting or in the process? Any advice with gathering my information?

Any current Air Force Nurses that could give me insight about their experience, especially regarding their first assignment?

My husband is about to separate from the Army and we are used to that way of thinking and doing things (i.e. lots of misleading information, less family oriented, less options regarding career). My recruiter had mentioned that everyone goes into a general clinical nurse slot, but is given the opportunity to specialize into a department of their choice after one year. My initial response was "Yeah... riiighhhttt." I don't actually believe that I would be given such a choice so soon, but I'm not sure if that is only because of our experience with the Army. Can anyone enlighten me??

Thanks!!

Hello everyone,

I have been following this thread for a while. I am 27 year old male a crit care nurse from Arizona applying of an FQ spot. I just received notice from my recruiterWas that I was selected from the Feb 19 boards for ICU, I will be leaving for COT in August and will be stationed at Travis AFB. I hope everyone here receives word soon. I do not know about apps getting sent back but I will be happy to help any way I can.

Hey and how are you ndsrn? I know you must be REAL excited, I know I'll be!

My questions I'd like to know your background, for example how long have you been an ICU nurse, how much experience you had, if any, before BSN with ADN or straight BSN. I'm asking because I am enrolled in BSN with ADN. CCRN? Gpa aprx? Of course I will understand if you can't answer the questions and appreciate any response.

Trying to get orientate before the big jump :-)

I have been in high acuity cvicu for 2.5 years I was an adn and had a bridge course to BSN that I just finished. I have a 3.96 GPA. No ccrn yet but I do have open heart/ ecmo experience, CRRT, IABP, FCCS, and I completed the ECCO course for ICU nurses. I don't think they look at your experience before and after your BSN as much as your overall experience. I played college football at the U of A and a local JC here in Tucson. I'm a husband and father of 2. I had no waivers going in to the selection board as well. I hope that helps.

Brownjkaf,

When do you go to COT?

Zacheus81, I don't think this is the list. It says that they should expect to go to basic training. As commissioned officers we don't have to go to Basics just COT. I will find out today when my recruiter calls.

Brownjkaf,

When do you go to COT?

ndarn,

I will not be attending COT prior to entry. Once I get to my unit I will see I can get a slot, but because I am already commissioned through the Army and attended their equivalent course, COT was not required. Still think it would beneficial to attend. Congrats again and best of luck in your new career.

Hey ffemt,

I too am a CTICU nurse, but with only a little over a year experience. Pretty much same credentials and a 3.5 Overall gpa. Not sure how long the alternate list waits but hoping not that long ugh haha good luck to you and congrats :-) maybe I'll see ya around!

Yes yes yes it does! Truly appreciated.

It's good to know to what a future officer of the Air Force profile looked like before he got commissioned! :-)
