This is a forum for sharing information related to commissioned officer training (COT) for the United States Air Force. It starts March 3, 2014 at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. I found out today that I was accepted. I will be stationed at joint base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

You could ask your recruiter to sponsor you onto a base or either call the security forces squadron on that base and see if your orders can get you on base

As I understand it...you can swap with someone who wants to leave the base assignment that you want to go to...it has to be an even swap.

Picking up uniforms today.....Awaiting TMO to schedule...HHG pickup

Finally received my orders today.....getting excited. Just wanted to give everyone some advice, I work in a military clinic currently and I have the advantage of talking with service members that have attended COT recently and being a spouse for 13 years with an active duty husband. They definitely recommend that you get uniforms and boots prior to going to COT. They also state that the worst part of COT is the sleep deprivation and getting up super early to do PT so if you usually work out in the evenings I would start trying to get up early and work out. Trust me it is so different running 5 miles at 0400 than at 1700. Some other suggestions about TMO is to make sure you look at your items closely when packing and unpacking because if things are damaged you can claim it and get it fixed. We live overseas right now so if you are PCSing overseas and have family members please contact your recruiter or COT about the family member relocation clearance. ALL family members that are traveling overseas must be command sponsored and medically cleared. This process can take awhile so try and get a start on it. Your family members also have to have No Fee passports.....the recruiters may have talked to you about it but I just wanted to point out some of those very important things that need to be done. Can't wait to see everyone and safe travels to all.

Ok so I don't feel as worried that I don't have orders yet. I see some of you are just now receiving them. I really want to try and get my uniforms before COT but how can I get on base without orders? I tried with my contract and they said no. I'm also concerned that if TMO can't schedule my packing and move on such short notice, what are my options? I live alone and would have nobody left to supervise the move once I leave. Any suggestions or experiences with this issue?

You may just have to wait until you get to COT. Having looked into this issue myself, you need a sponsor to get on base in the first place prior to your COT date. You're inactive reserve prior to COT. You definitely need your orders to buy the uniforms, because they won't sell them to you otherwise; that's even with a sponsor.

I would recommend calling the clothing sales nearest you because some will accept a copy of your oath of office or your acceptance letter. You would still need to be sponsored on base by your recruiter but I would definitely recommend getting your uniforms ahead of time because alterations here takes forever and the clothing sales designated for OTS runs out of items very quick. People here have had major problems with alterations such as one pant leg longer then the other, missing items, ripped mess dress jacket that they refused to pay for, etc. Just my recommendation.

Has everyone received orders? I'm still waiting to hear back...a little over two weeks to go. I'm getting excited but also worried that everything is so rushed. I also haven't heard from a sponsor from my home base. I finally went over my recruiter and am now dealing with his boss. But he can't get things moving much faster either.

Well guys I can't believe we only have TWO WEEKS!!:nailbiting: I am starting to pack my bags and I found this packing list and some general tips for COT.

Going to Langley AFB tomorrow to try and buy uniforms. I hope they let me because I still don't have orders ;-( For those of you who are flying, how many bags are we allowed?

Less than a week away!! I am looking forward to meeting you all! I am almost packed. DEL1VRD did you get orders? How is everyone else holding up?

They won't let you on the base without a sponsor. You won't be allowed to purchase uniforms at the store on base without orders or a military ID.
