He has a bad attitude, which should may you rethink the military.

While I agree that he certainly has a bad attitude and was WAY over the top, this should not be your only reasoning for not choosing the military. If you don't like your recruiter and truly want to go in, change recruiters. Not everyone in the military is like him (thankfully) and will actually work for what you want and not just for his comission. Good luck on which you choose!

Hello Trina,

I'm a veteran and know for a fact that the Med-tech school in the Air Force does nothing for you but give you a certificate for a nurses aide on the outside. If that's what you want...go for it. You'll make twice the money out of LVN school. I'm sorry your recruiter acted that way. You have to understand that they require monthly quotas. This does not excuse his behavior. JAckie

Thank you for your reply. I did check with 3 nursing boards. TX OK NY. texas will not allow a Military medic to challenge the LVN. OK & NY will. OK as long as you have 4n051 status and New York as ling as you have completed an approved medical military training prgram. At least 9 months long. My thing was I did not feel right trying to challenge the board. I wanted to make sure that I had the education.

I called DK, my ex brother in law (who is a retired Navy recruiter) and read him your posts. DK said that what he did (the visit to your home, telling you the AF was no longer an option, etc) is NOT acceptable behavior. He said you should, schedule an appointment to sit down with his supervisor and discuss the situation & events.

This guy is way out of line. My husband was a Navy recruiter a year and a half ago, he NEVER did things like that. Any idiot knows that is a sure way to scare off the applicant. He was probably short on his quota and was in for a butt chewing. If your performance is constantly under par in recruiting you can get into bad trouble, not good for your career and advancement. I would tell his supervisor about his odd behavior. If you are still interested in the Air Force I would ask to work with a different recruiter, or find another office in your area. You mentioned something else about not getting what you want. That is the reason my Hubby didn't join Air force, they wouldn't guarantee his job. Some recruiters will tell you anything to get you to join. Whatever they offer, GET IT IN WRITING!!!!! If it isn't documented on official governement forms, the offer never existed. You have no proof. You are screwed in other words. The money you get for college is a good perk , You can do a lot of work while you are in the service also, CLEP tests, etc for college credit , even college classes, time allowing) I would decide which way I wanted to go if I were you, LVN school or military. You don't want to waste money and time on LVN school only to decide you want the AF. Get what classes / courses you can get done while in the service, then use the money from GI Bill to finish your RN. Good luck to you in whatever you decide. Any questions for me just ask

The thing about is, the recruiter called his recruiter and told him about me. His supervisor chewed him out and then called me to apologize. I am not sure why he sent that information to his supervisor, but he made the supervisor mad.

My husband was a Navy recruiter and never treated is possible recruits like this. However, he did have stories of other recruiters that would do anything to get a body. As a veteran myself I'm sorry your experience was so bad. Good luck in LVN school. I have been a LPN for a little over a year now and love it. Right now i'm working towards my RN.

I would find out who his SNCOIC (a 1st Sgt, MSgt... or whomever) is and make an appointment to see him. There is no reason for his behavior, nor his unprofessional conduct. I can guarantee you that the AFR does not want him out there behaving this way.

My husband has been an active duty Marine for 20 years. While the military has been a good life for us, there have been many frustrating times. Your first few years in the AFR, you will not make as much as an LVN, however, the benefits (medical, GI Bill, etc) are unbeatable.

If your desire is to join, don't let this yahoo ruin a good opportunity for you. Right now, the Air Force is way under quota for recruits... this guy might be stressing to make his monthly quota, and feels like he needs to use a different approach. Or he could just be a jerk.

Regardless, take the path YOU want. Call a recruiter in a different area and tell him of your history with your present recruiter.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! This is all sounding too familliar. I am an army vetran and was promised the same thing upon enlistment. While my recruter didn't stalk me, he enlisted me as excess, which means there are too many of a particular MOS, and therefore I lost my sign on bonus of $3000. To add insult to injury I was told I was enlisting into LVN. I turned out to be a medic, graduated AIT with a EMT cert and medic training. (there is nothing wrong with being a medic, I loved it, but I thought I was going to be a nurse) Double/tripple check with another recruter and tell him what you expect to get out of this. I think the millitary is the best choice I could have made. I would reccomend it to anyone. I don't know much about the Air Force, but the Medic training in the Army is being converted to a much more intense training. Ask about the 91W MOS at an Army recruter if you are interested.

I also would file a proper complaint with his supervisor. They would want to know that they have a representative acting this unprofessional out in the community; they certainly don't need any more of their members tarring their already battered reputation.
