Air Force FY2016

Published

Hi! This will be my second time applying as a NICU RN for the Air Force. I'm applying to the September boards. It would be great to hear from anyone applying to these boards as well! I posted a different thread a while back about this same thing, but it got no responses. Figured i would try again!

:)

has anyone been selected from the critical care alternate list? does anyone know when they usually start choosing from the alternate list?

A week ago I found out I was selected for NICU! They already told me my COT date (aug 15) and first assignment SAMMC (San Antonio)! Anybody else get that date or assignment? Congrats to everyone who got selected!

I am just getting all of my paperwork together and meeting with my recruiter next week. Does anyone know when the next boards are?

I am applying as an ER nurse with 7 years of experience, CEN, and also have my MSN in Nursing Education. Praying I can get accepted!

Hi Everyone. I am new to AllNurses. I am completing all of my paperwork/interviews for boards in July 2016. I have met with the Chief Nurse, and now I am supposed to have a critical care interview since I am an ICU nurse. Does anyone have any insight into what questions will be asked or what I can expect? Thanks in advance.

I am new to this forum. I'm a 40 years old OR nurse with 3 years of experience and considering applying for the Air Force. Would you give me some information about the process? What bases have OR's ? Thank you :)

It's long (about 6 months of paperwork, interviews, and waiting). You're pretty much a sure thing with OR experience. You could get your CNOR and hedge your bets though.

Most of the Air Force OR locations are listed below:

Anchorage, AK

Sacramento, CA

Destin, FL

San Antonio, TX

Langley, VA

Dayton, OH

Bilouxi, MS

Landstuhl, Germany

Misawa, Japan

Incirlick, Turkey

Thank you so much! I am still thinking if I should apply for the reserve, since my kids are still in high school. Then, after they graduate in 2 years, I would move into active duty.

Unfortunately, going from reserve to active is very difficult. Also, you can't wait 2 years to do active duty as the cutoff is age 42 without a waiver. Even with a waiver, the mandatory retirement age is 62. That means you won't be eligible for the pension if you join after you turn 42.

Thank you again... I just now started my research about joint the AF. I didn't know that was difficult to go from reserve to active duty and I thought the cutoff age for nurses was 47 as the website states:(

Maybe they routinely issue age waivers for experience nurses. A healthcare recruiter would know for sure.

Actually the cutoff age is 47-from age 48 requires a waiver. Age 42 refers to enlisted, not commissioned. It's understood that you won't qualify for retirement and you won't qualify for AFIT and maybe a couple of smaller things, but yes, the cut off is 47.

Hello,

I was an Army Reserve Operating Room nurse for 7 years. Im thinking about joining AF as an OR Nurse but have an H3 Hearing profile on my right ear. Is that a disqualification? Any insight?
