Hi there! Officially got selected today! I was an alternate the first time I applied. Post here if ure going COT Jan 2017!
You won't be COT 17-01...that's the class starting in October.....classes are numbered according to the fiscal year, which starts 01 October and runs through 30 September. The October class is the first class of FY 2017. You'll either be 02 or 03.
(I was Cot 10-01 - October of 2009, the first class of FY 10.)
That's why you have October people joining your page. They think it's for them.
With that said, who here has gotten their actual acceptance at this point? How was MEPS? (Being a prior enlisted member I've been through it twice!)
As many exercises as I've been on, I should have caught the numbering convention for the FY. I'm an enlisted E-7 (currently Reserves) transitioning to a commission nurse/officer. At this point, most of us are waiting for this mysterious "scroll" to come in. Other than that, I'm ready to rock-and-roll. Thank you for the correction.
Unsolicited advice. Totally unsolicited but I think the experience is worth sharing.
I am a former staff sergeant in the USAF. AND I was a military working dog handler. Be prepared for being an officer - it's very different from being enlisted, even in the non-line world of the medical field. Your entire mindset has to change. I didn't have a problem being the 'underdog' (I came in as a second lieutenant with 13 months time in grade because I'd already been a civilian RN on the outside), and I can't actually explain or cite examples of what I'm trying to convey (I know - pitiful) but the mindset is different. You can't be a senior NCO in attitude, thought process, or action. It is VERY different even if it doesn't seem like it is.
If you're going active from straight Reserve, that's another transition. Even the non-line of the USAF is different from the Reservist world. :)
Not trying to give you a hard time. I wish someone else had really told me how different it is. I KNEW it was different, but the experience was an entirely different story. It's not them. It actually might be you in this case. :) Hopefully that helps. If it's clear as mud, let me know and I'll see if I can't quantify it better.
@carolinapooh - Yes, clear as mud. LOL! I have been active duty for 14 years, USAFR 11 months, and an RN for 11 months. I have been around plenty of officers in my career and in my experiences, some of my favorite officers have been prior-enlisted (gives a better perspective to the other side, IMO).
From the 11 months that I've been an RN, I know it's going to be a huge change from being a Database Manager (IT type), but I'm really curious to what extent. I'm really excited and nervous. I am really happy that I get to take the two things I love (nursing and the military) and get to do it in the same capacity. Any advice or experience you would like to share, I'm all ears. :)
Is it okay to PM you if I have any questions?

I was informed by my recruiter the results should be released September 1st. Has anyone else heard anything?
